Primary Objective
The overall objective of this position is to move OCI Alabama beyond compliance to World Class Safety compliance. This is accomplished by nurturing an organizational culture founded on Safety and supported by our values of Integrity, Leadership, Commitment and Respect. Success is measured by exceeding compliance standards, being recognized as leaders in safety performance by our employee’s, and from development and implementation of innovative, state-of-the-art, proactive processes.
Essential Functions
1. Keeps the organization current and knowledgeable with all pertinent health and safety regulations.
2. Ensure investigations for all injury and property damage incidents produce adequate follow-up addressing root cause(s) of incident.
3. Inspects the facility to identify safety, and health risks.
4. Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures and a schedule of routine inspections.
5. Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
6. Lead the organization to a Zero Incident Mindset.
7. Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety and other relevant topics.
8. Maintain and update comprehensive and accurate documentation (i.e. reporting, safety training records, OSHA logs, etc.).
9. Develop strong relations with key regulatory agencies and personnel.
10. Stay current on industry practices regarding safety compliance.
11. Participate and influence new rule-making efforts potentially affecting OCI interests.
12. Develop and implement innovative, proactive training processes and systems to take OCI beyond compliance.
13. Participate in industry councils with an emphasis on implementing best practices for continuous improvement.
14. Manage departmental budget for safety, training, testing and reporting.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
1. Bachelor’s degree in health and Safety or related field required.
2. Safety certification is a plus (Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), or Licensed Safety Professional (LSP)
3. Experience in the chemical process industry preferred
4. Strong understanding of regulations (OSHA, PSM, DOT Hazmat, etc.), federal and state – 5 years of experience required in addition to the following:
a. Ability to decipher/understand/translate regulations and changes
b. Ability and experience participating /influencing proposed changes
c. Ability and experience of successfully working with regulatory agencies
5. Ability to conduct training
6. Proven ability to have influence without control
7. Excellent communication skills
8. Proven ability to lead and facilitate teams

Pay: $55,262.27 - $116,174.01 per year
