Your goal is to provide a warm and stimulating environment to nurture the development of the children to their fullest potential. Children must be treated with respect and dignity; their self-esteem as individuals is your paramount concern. Emphasize learning by doing and value all aspects of children’s work. By stressing process rather than product enhance feelings of competence and self worth.

Teaching children to take responsibility for their own learning is a major part of the Montessori elementary curriculum. Each student has a daily record outlining what lessons they need to do on a daily and weekly basis. Students are expected to keep themselves “on track” with guidance and assistance from the Lead teacher and assistant. Children are encouraged to find answers to their own questions, solve their own problems, and make their own decisions. Dealing with the consequences of their decisions (good or bad) is part of the learning process. The students develop a sense of community within their classroom and work together to promote a positive environment.

As a member of the Ocean State Montessori School staff you will be expected to assist in carrying out the mission of the school and to be an advocate for our school in the community. You will have a direct impact on the quality of school programs. You will also be expected to offer input whenever you see an opportunity to improve our school in any way. QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Arts or Sciences in Elementary Education or related field

Montessori Elementary I certification or willingness to pursue

RI Teaching certification or willingness to obtain

Experience working with elementary-aged children

Strong organizational, time management, communication, classroom management, and leadership abilities

CPR and First Aid certification for children (or willingness to pursue)
