About the role :

This role offers an opportunity to develop food safety expertise within an operational setting. The candidate will work closely with the Food Technology Lead and the Technical Policy & Compliance Team to enhance skills in food safety and compliance, promoting a strong food safety and quality culture.

As the primary contact for sites and service providers, the candidate will ensure onsite compliance processes are clear and effective.

They will collaborate with stakeholders to improve food safety, quality standards, compliance, and performance, contributing to product safety excellence by sharing best practices.

In partnership with the Food Technology Lead, the candidate will develop and report on food safety and quality culture, using data insights to implement action plans that enhance Ocados standards.

The role includes developing technical policies and procedures, providing guidance on food safety issues, assisting in the creation of safe systems of work, updating food safety management systems, and delivering training.

Additionally, the candidate will develop auditing skills by working with operational teams and auditing lower-risk areas.

You will be :

Champion food safety and quality culture by providing technical support on compliance and engaging with stakeholders across the business and third parties to drive continuous improvement in Food Safety Management Systems, quality standards, and business compliance.

Develop food and product safety excellence by identifying and sharing best practices, and offer guidance, coaching, and training to key stakeholders to ensure compliance requirements are met and processes are correctly completed.

Contribute to the businesss risk-based technical compliance audit schedule, help develop technical process documents to translate policy into operational procedures and Safe Systems of Work, and oversee the microbiological sampling and testing program.

Support Technical Policy and Compliance projects, conduct regular reviews to ensure compliance with food safety management systems and safety standards, and address any raised NCNs within an agreed timescale.

Investigate complaints and incidents to identify root causes, regularly review and contribute to the food safety training program, and support KPI reviews with accurate reporting and actionable recommendations.

Use data insights to create an action plan that improves engagement in, and understanding of, food safety and quality within the business.

Collaborate with the Technical Policy and Compliance team to review audit results and identify opportunities for continuous improvement, contribute to the teams OGSM, participate in on-call duties as needed, provide operational support during peak seasonal trading, and deputise for colleagues as required.

About you : The ideal candidate will have a degree in food science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience, along with food hygiene qualifications or experience.

They should be computer literate and comfortable using technology for recording and reporting and must hold a full driving license.

Preferred qualifications include experience in food manufacturing and / or retail audits, which should be obtained within 12 months of starting the role, as well as Advanced Food Hygiene and Advanced HACCP certifications, which should also be attained within 12 months.
