Oakwood Friends School, founded in 1796, is a Quaker, college-preparatory, coeducational, boarding and day school located in Poughkeepsie, NY, serving approximately 175 students in grades 6-12. A diverse learning community consists of students from six countries, multiple states and the local Hudson Valley region.

SUMMARY:

Oakwood Friends School is currently seeking a full time Spanish faculty member for the 2024-2025 academic year. This position covers courses from the introductory level through AP including trimester elective courses. Other opportunities include coaching, residential supervision and weekend program support. On-campus, year-round housing is available for both individuals and families.

Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Spanish Teacher to join our team. As a Spanish Teacher, you will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction in the Spanish language to students. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on students' language learning journey.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with curriculum standards
- Teach Spanish language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active learning
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and improve instructional materials
- Utilize learning technology to enhance teaching and student engagement
- Provide individualized support and tutoring to students as needed
- Foster a love for the Spanish language and culture through creative teaching methods

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
- Valid teaching certification/license in Spanish (or ability to obtain one)
- Strong knowledge of Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation
- Experience working with diverse student populations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment
- Proficiency in learning technologies and educational software
- Familiarity with special education strategies and accommodations
- Knowledge of linguistics and literacy education principles
- Strong proofreading and writing skills, adhering to the Chicago Manual Style
