Basic Functions and Responsibility:

Under general supervision, coordinate the recruitment, evaluation, and program and course development for the AI Pathfinders Trades School Grant program. The purpose of the Trades School Grant is to provide access and strengthen pathways to careers in the "trades" for young adults, particularly those in underserved communities. The AI Pathfinders program will be a pilot partnership between Oakton College, Evanston Township High School, and local employers to create curriculum pathways, career exploration, and work-based learning opportunities in AI for ETHS students. This is a grant-funded position through the Illinois Community College Board FY23 Trades School Grant Program.

Characteristics, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple aspects of the AI Pathfinders Trades School grant program and ensure that all program goals are met.
  • Assist with the development, coordination, and oversight of the recruitment and advising of Evanston Township Middle School youth that will participate in activities promoting interest in artificial intelligence.
  • Assist with the development, coordination, and oversight of the recruitment and advising of Evanston Township High School juniors and seniors for leadership of service-learning projects for middle school youth, and paid summer internships with local AI employers.
  • Help develop a collaboration between Oakton and IBM SkillsBuild to create an Artificial Intelligence program of study that serves ETHS students and enables them to earn up to 18 hours of early college credit.
  • Work closely with the faculty of the Math, Computer Science, and Computer Information Systems, to coordinate the development of an Artificial Intelligence Specialist Certificate and a pre-major in Artificial Intelligence.
  • Work with the leadership and relevant internal departments to establish employer connections for work-based learning that will include leadership of service-learning projects and internships for Evanston students.
  • Work to establish employer connections for job opportunities post program completion.
  • Coordinate the intake and orientation process for all prospective participants.
  • Serve as liaison with all external partners for programming, recruitment, enrollment, and support.
  • Maintain grant performance reports; ensure that accurate and complete data is maintained for compliance.
  • Collect and maintain student demographic and outcome data to generate monthly/semester/annual reports to evaluate and document performance and progress of students/project.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:


Qualifications and Working Conditions:

  • Bachelor's degree is required. Master's degree in Higher Education or Math or Computer Science or related fields preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience from which similar ability can be acquired is necessary.
  • Two years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Evidence of a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of racial equity.
  • Ability to execute multiple projects; be creative while respecting the integrity of the institution.
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in organizing and planning.
  • Effective customer service skills, relates well to diverse populations.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft applications, and possesses the ability to quickly learn student tracking system.

Physical Demands:

Light lifting up to 10 lbs. and light carrying up to 10 lbs. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-Campus and to visit off-Campus entities. Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature. Little or no exposure to adverse working conditions.

Supervision Received:

Functional and Administrative supervision is received from the Dean of STEM Division.

Supervision Exercised:

Functional Supervision is exercised over a Trade School Grant Program Assistant.

Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:45 pm

Salary: $58,866

This is a temporary grant position and continued employment, is based on the successful renewal of the grant.

Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have hybrid schedule options available after 30 working days.
