Oakton Community College is Hiring an Orientation Leader Student Employee, #1020 Near Des Plaines, IL

Overview:

The student orientation leader position is designed to partner with the Office of Advising, Transitions, and Student Success (OATSS) to onboard new Oakton students during the summer Advising & Registration Workshop (ARW). During ARW, orientation leaders will assist with creating a welcoming environment, conduct campus tours, and assist students with the registration process. Orientation leaders will also help students navigate various onboarding steps and processes to aid in their success. Orientation Leaders are expected to represent Oakton well as dynamic role models while serving as a valuable resource to new students during their transition to the institution.

Length of Employment:

Orientation Leaders must commit to work a majority of the Advising & Registration Workshops scheduled between May 2024- August 2024. The workshop schedule can be found below.

*Tuesday programs are 9am- 1 pm and Wednesday programs are 1pm- 5pm.

Hours Available:

May - July: 10-12 hours per week during the week's when ARW's are conducted

August: Up to 20 hours during the first three weeks of the month, prior to the start of the semester

Schedule Flexibility:

Orientation leaders must commit to work a majority of the scheduled workshops listed above.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities and Learning Outcomes :

- Serve as a role model to Oakton students and as a positive representative of the Office of Advising, Transitions, and Student Success to all students, families, and college staff/faculty. (CD, CM, LD, EI, CD, PF, TW)

- Assist incoming students through their personal and academic transition to Oakton. (C, LD, EI)

- Provide support for the academic advising process by assisting in the course registration lab, answering questions related to course requirements, electives, and scheduling. (CM, CT, LD, PF, TC)

- Familiarize students with campus resources and common transitional issues. (CD, CT, LD, PF, TC)

- Convey information to new students about college programs and services. (CM, CT, LD, PF, TC)

- Create a welcoming and positive atmosphere for students of various backgrounds and abilities. (CM, CT, LD, PF, TW, TC)

- Attend and participate in all training sessions and Advising & Registration Workshops. (CM, CT, LD, PF, TW, TC)

Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Other abilities):

- Employment over the summer is allowed for students taking at least 1 credit class during the summer, or students continuing registration into the following fall semester for at least six credit hours.

- Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton Community College
