Oakland Eyes is Hiring a Receptionist/Optometry Technician Near Lauderhill, FL

Exciting opportunity to join a private optometry practice. We offer flexible hours, weekdays only, hours of operation are 9:30-5:30 Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and 10AM-6PM Wednesdays.

JOB SUMMARY: Welcoming & Greeting patients, Answering Phones, Patient Scheduling, Obtaining Insurance Authorizations, and Pretesting Patients.

  • Organization: Can prioritize tasks and organize work to achieve the maximum efficiency.

  • Initiative: Strongly self-reliant and self-motivated. Takes prompt actions to influence event positively and is responsive to opportunities. Is self-motivated to take actions beyond the minimum necessary to achieve the goal.

  • Emotional Stability: Maintains composure when dealing with argumentative people or defensive situations.

Skill Set

  • Organizational: Able to organize duties into daily, weekly, and monthly routine and complete them on time.

  • Verbal Communication: Able to effectively communicate with other staff members, patients and other outside business contacts with proper etiquette and in a professional manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greeting / welcoming patients with a smile and positive attitude – This must occur before anything else!

  • Insurance authorizations and eligibility: Verifying insurance coverage and eligibility daily for vision and Medicare.

  • Receiving patients in: Making sure any paperwork that is needed is completed including the Intake Form

  • Scheduling, confirming and rescheduling patient's appointments

  • Answering telephones & taking messages

  • Checking answering machine/voicemails

  • Learning different lens styles, materials and options in both glasses and contact lenses

  • Being knowledgeable about patient’s insurance plans

  • Assisting patients in finding out details about their insurance coverage

  • Keeping track of patient insurances, co-pays, deductibles and other expenses.

  • Maintaining office and keeping front office clean

  • Finding and preparing patient charts the day before.

  • Checking patients out, reviewing the routing slip and collecting payment

  • Straighten up waiting area (clean up brochures, magazines, etc.) daily.

  • Clean optical displays (dusting/windexing glass surfaces and mirrors, straightening out frames to face forward)

  • Dispensing patient’s contact lens orders and ensuring all payments have been paid in full.

  • Make sure there are enough patient history forms and office use forms copied

  • Assisting the doctor with daily office tasks, filing, faxing, other office duties.

Required Education: High school diploma at minimum

No optical experiences required; training provided.
