Overview

Under direction from the Director of Operations (Facilities) the Maintenance tech (electrician) directs and performs the day-to-day activity of planning and providing temporary electrical, air, water and gas services in support of exhibitions, trade shows and other events throughout the venue. This position requires working flexible hours of varying days and shift times including holidays and weekends. This position will work closely with the Assistant Director of Event Services in terms of receiving functional event related information and formulating service priorities.

Responsibilities

    • Work closely with the Assistant Director of Event Services to plan the electrical and utilities installations for all facility events requiring services.
    • Utilizing event information gathered, plan the utilities installations using a “coded” floor plan
    • Prepare final floor plans for installation and assignment
    • Schedule utilities labor based on event and facility needs
    • Contact exhibitors requiring 208V/480V or non-standard power requirements and overhead distribution
    • Supervises temp labor calls from local contractors as needed
    • Performs installation and removal of temporary electrical, air, water and gas services in support of exhibitions, trade shows and other events, within event timeline requirements.
    • Assign, direct and supervise activities of designated in-house and contracted staff performing temporary utilities installations
    • Act as the primary liaison with exhibitors and show management to answer technical questions and to resolve issues on the floor with a heavy focus on customer service
    • Maintain inventory of temporary utility equipment, materials and supplies for event installations
    • Conduct show audits of utilities used during event
    • Perform other duties as required

    SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS/KNOWLEDGE:

    • Procedures, methods, and techniques of temporary electrical/utility installation
    • Ability to “Think Yes” and provide exceptional customer service
    • Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities
    • Modern office methods, procedures, and equipment
    • Ability to supervise temp labor during event production
    • Ability to determine staffing needs and effectively schedule temp labor
    • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications
    • Basic experience in AutoCAD software for purposes of plan review and utility installation layout
    • Proficient in understanding and application of the National Electrical Code
    • Ability/willingness to learn Ungerboeck-our Event Management Software and read social table diagrams
    • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors and facility users
    • Ability to work from elevated surfaces, such as catwalks, ladders and lifts
    • Effectively develop and work a flexible schedule as required to meet facility and event needs, including irregular

    and extended duration shifts

    Physical demands:

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently operate a computer and other office devices such as calculators, telephones, copy machines, faxes and printers. Employee will constantly move about inside and outside various areas of the facility before/during /after events to interact with internal/external clients and supervise the work of employees during events; position will require employee to occasionally bend, stoop, or crouch in order to evaluate and inspect/install utility services; employee will as needed operate fork lift, high lift to support the exhibitor requirements for the event. Employee will be required to identify or match colors/tones of coded floor plans. Employee must constantly communicate via telephone, email and in-person with others and exchange accurate information. Employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and infrequently move more than 100 pounds.

    Work environment:

    • The duties of this position are regularly performed indoors in varying conditions and occasionally outdoors as necessary. The employee frequently works near moving equipment and mechanical parts, vibration, and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to hot or cold temperatures and/or wet or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and may work with chemicals such as cleaners, paint, and solvents. The noise level in the work environment is normally quiet to moderate and occasionally loud.

Qualifications

    • Must be 18 years of age or older
    • Three years verifiable electrical installation and maintenance experience, including single and three phase systems is required. Public venue or institutional setting experience preferred
    • One year experience supervising apprentice and skilled level trades
    • Customer Service experience essential
    • Basic skill level of AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications

    Education/Training:

    • High school diploma, or equivalent GED
    • Graduation from accredited trade school or completion of IBEW Journey level electrician requirements

    Licenses or Certificates:

    • Possession of, or ability to obtain a CPR certificate and AED certificate
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain a driver’s license
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain aerial lift certification (Scissor and Articulating)
