Role Description:

A Behavioral Health Specialist Lead (BHS, Lead) provides clinical and didactic training to new Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) as well as follow-up consultation. The BHS Lead also serves as a consultative resource for other BHSs. The BHS Lead will help BHSs maintain consistency with the Oak Street Health (OSH) service philosophy and work within the scope of practice for the primary care setting. Within these parameters, the BHS Lead will also encourage creativity within the BHS’s local practice while maintaining consistency with the BHS service model, role expectation and performance.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Training for new BHSs - BHS Leads maintain a plan for training behavioral health providers in the skills and competencies necessary to perform as a BHS. Training will be accomplished through directed reading of the practice manual, didactic instruction, demonstration by the BHS Lead, and direct observation and feedback of the BHS trainee by the BHS Lead.

  • Feedback for BHS trainees - BHS Leads will evaluate BHS candidates using the BHS Core Competency Tool. The core competencies will be used as criteria to provide performance-based feedback.

  • Clinical Supervision - the Lead BHS will provide clinical supervision to those BHS’s in their region who are seeking hours towards obtaining their licensure.

  • Peer consultation to experienced BHSs - BHS Leads will be available to provide consultation to BHSs, as needed. This consultation may include discussion of complex cases, ethical issues, development of new services, or other topics related to provision of BHS services.

  • Cohort meeting - BHS Leads will create a weekly clinical consultation meeting held either in person or video conference for their cohort of BHSs to discuss patient cases.

  • Facilitate weekly meetings with BHS providers in the region in which they are the Lead.

  • Collaborate with regional leadership, including Vice President, Medical Directors, Lead Medical Social Worker, Population Health Director and Clinical Behavioral Health Manager.

  • Advocate for BH program integration within clinics. Support BH providers to work towards achieving their program metric.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for motivated, experienced social workers with:

  • Illinois LCSW required (and in good standing)

  • 2 years post Master’s experience in a Behavioral Health setting

  • Demonstrated advanced clinical skills in the duties, responsibilities, and skills as Behavioral Health Specialist in a primary care setting

  • US work authorization

  • Someone who embodies being “Oaky”
