Description

Job Purpose:

The Special Events Attendant is responsible for maintaining an inviting, positive, and safe environment at the Park Districts Cheney Mansion, Pleasant Home and Community Special Events. The Attendant is expected to be visible and engaged in daily activities in and around the facility and grounds. The Attendant assists with set up and staging of special events and programs, light housekeeping and maintaining the exterior grounds.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with preparation of Cheney Mansion and Pleasant for special events and programs. This includes opening the 2nd and 3rd floors for events, opening restrooms and making the facility available for vendors, clients and/or patrons. This may also include the set up and take down of tables, chairs, and equipment used in special programs and closing up floors not in use at the conclusion of an event.
  • Greet invited guests at the Cheney Mansion and Pleasant Home entrance during client functions.
  • Mop and clean restrooms and refill lavatory supplies as needed. Provide light housekeeping such as mopping wood floors, vacuuming carpets and polishing woodwork as assigned.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image when working with patrons by addressing questions and concerns from vendors, patrons, and clients. Become familiar with the history of Cheney Mansion and Pleasant Home conduct tours as needed. Contact and ask for assistance from supervisor as necessary.
  • Report maintenance needs to supervisor. Clean facilities including restrooms and pick up garbage from grounds as needed. Following special events and programs return facility to a clean safe condition.
  • Wear proper attire for special events as directed.
  • Set up and prepare areas in designated parks for Community Events. Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image when working with patrons by addressing any questions and concerns.

Additional Functions:

  • Attend staff meetings and training programs as specified.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor or other Park District administrative personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Work Experience Required:

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.
  • Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role in the park, even while working under potentially stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset visitors, etc.)
  • Some experience working with special events is desirable.

  • Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a concise manner.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively and to read and understand printed material.
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate well with others.
  • Ability to interpret and explain division and District policies and procedures.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and exercise judgment in all aspects of responsibility.
  • Ability to resolve conflict safely, calmly and effectively.
  • Ability to operate basic tasks on a computer as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Will be exposed to occasional inclement weather including heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind.

External: Patrons of Park District of Oak Park; residents of Oak Park, WSSRA, Partner Organizations including governmental and non-profit groups, and the Oak Park Business Community.
