About the Employer
Oak Grove School District has a total student enrollment of approximately 8,800 students from grades TK-8. We have 18 school campuses along with a TK-8 Virtual Learning Academy (VLA). Six out of eighteen schools receive Title I funds. The size of the schools range from approximately 730 students to 270 students. The percentage of English Learners is 29% representing 56 languages spoken in the District.

Oak Grove School District's focus is driven by the LCAP (Local Control Accountability Plan) and school site-specific SPSA (Single Plan for Student Achievement) which identifies short, intermediate, and long-term goals. First and foremost in all activities is the safety of students as well as student success in the areas of math and reading/language arts interwoven with science, social studies and visual and performing arts. Student performance goals have been integrated into the state and federal accountability systems. Annually, the LCAP and SPSA's are updated with our students, staff and various community groups in keeping with our core values, the vision, and the annual goals.

The District is located in the southeastern corner of San Jose, California bounded by Capitol Expressway to the north, Canoas Creek to the west, Bernal Road to the south and the foothills to the east.

Job Description / Essential Elements:
To perform skilled maintenance and repair of the district's school buses, vehicles, and other equipment and to perform and participate in the servicing and maintenance of district equipment. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision from a supervisory level and within a framework of standard policies and procedures. Employees in this classification trouble-shoot, assist others in their work, and organize and assign the work of others. This job class exercises responsibility for organizing and scheduling the work of other mechanics for efficient repair and maintenance of district equipment and for providing technical and lead oversight to assure that the work is being done in accordance with established standards and guidelines. The Master Mechanic leads, assigns, and reviews the work of the Sanitary Truck Driver/Utility Worker when he is doing work/duties that are related to the shop and/or the use of shop equipment to assure that the work is being done in accordance with district and safety guidelines. The job class functions at a lead/advanced journey level of classification.
Requirements / Qualifications
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION:
California State Driver's License (with school bus endorsement)
ASE Master School Bus Technician Certificate (or equal)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License with school bus endorsement, and an ASE Master School Bus technician certificate or equal. A copy of these items must be submitted with the application. Knowledge of: the methods, practices, materials, and tools used in the mechanic trade; safety regulations and precautions pertaining to bus, vehicle, and equipment servicing; gasoline and diesel engine operation and repair; the practices, methods, and tools of the welding trade. Skill to: schedule and oversee the work of others; understand and follow a variety of complex oral and written instructions in an independent manner; diagnose and repair a wide variety of mechanical malfunctions in buses, vehicles and other equipment; safely use and care for tools and equipment of the mechanic trade; maintain maintenance and service records and files; perform welding and fabrication. Ability to meet the physical requirements necessary to successfully perform required duties. Skill to establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
