Purpose for the Position:

To tend laundering machines to clean articles such as wearing apparel, sheets, blankets, and other linens used by the hotel and guests.

 Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist with stripping of soiled linens from the guest rooms, and removing stains if needed. 
  • Disposes or repurposes/recycles linen as designated by hotel standards. 
  • Washes bed wraps, duvets, mattress pads, and blankets in accordance with hotel standards.
  • Keeps laundry neat and clean.
  • Assists with cleaning and up-keeping of storage areas.
  • Operate washers and dryers properly as well, ensuring the correct detergents (and amounts) are being used.
  • Loads articles into washer and adds specified amount of detergent, soap, or other cleaning agents.
  • Lifts clean, wet articles from the washer and places them successively into wringers and driers for measured time cycles.
  • Sorts the dried articles according to identification number or type.
  • Fold linens to hotel standards and keeps the stock organized in designated places.
  • Irons all table linens.
  • Ensures cleanliness of equipment.
  • May dissolve soap granules in hot water and steam to make liquid soap.
  • May mend torn articles using needle and thread.
  • May sort and count articles to verify quantities on laundry lists.
  • May soak contaminated articles in neutralizer solution to vat to precondition for washing.
  • May mix dyes and bleaches according to formula, and dye and bleach specified articles.
  • Abides by the regulations of the material safety data sheet when using chemicals.
  • Reports to work for scheduled shifts, on time and in uniform in accordance with company policy.
  • Knows and complies with all company policies and procedures regarding this position and its duties.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Education & Experience:

  • A minimum of 1 year in a Housekeeping role is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of High School education or GED.

 Hours:

  • Due to the nature of the business, scheduling may vary and include nights, weekends, and holidays.

 Physical Requirements of the Position:

  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or up to 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 to 2/3 of the time), and/or a 10 to 20 of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists up to 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. 
  • Requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Physical Activity of the Position:

  • Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, picking/pinching with fingers, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. 

 Visual Acuity Requirements:

  • Must have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.)

 Environmental Conditions:

  • Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. A job is considered “inside” if the worker spends approximately 75 percent or more of the time inside.
  • Extremes of Heat Plus Temperature Changes: Extremes of Heat: Temperature sufficiently high to cause marked bodily discomfort unless the worker is provided with exceptional protection. Temperature Changes: Variations in temperature, which are sufficiently marked and abrupt to cause noticeable bodily reactions.
  • Wet and Humid: Wet: Contact with water or other liquids. Humid: Atmospheric condition with moisture content sufficiently high to cause marked bodily discomfort.
  • Noise and Vibration: Sufficient noise, either constant or intermittent, to cause marked distraction or possible injury to the sense of hearing, and/or sufficient vibration (production of an oscillating movement or strain on the body or its extremities from repeated motion or shock) to cause bodily harm if endured day after day.
