THIS ROLE: The Viticulture Technician Intern provides support to the Grower Relations representative leading up to and during the harvest season. We have positions based in Fresno (1), Paso Robles (2), and North Valley (2). This seasonal internship typically runs from May to November.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Grape brix sampling, scouting, and cluster counting in vineyards from Monterey to Santa Barbara 
  •  Prepare and analyze grape, juice samples 
  •  Collecting and preparing grape samples at various vineyards 
  •  Assist with vineyard trials and data collection
  •  Deliver grape samples to the lab daily (depending on location)
  •  Vineyard and grape health monitoring: virus, disease, pathogens, insects, and weeds
  •  Other projects and duties as assigned 

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.   •  Bachelor's degree or upper-division coursework in Viticulture and agricultural sciences, or in the process thereof 
  •  Must be dependable and flexible for working varying shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays
  •  Proficient written and verbal communication skills 
  •  Ability to work independently and communicate well
  •  Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following: 

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • The position requires significant travel between vineyards.
  • Must be able to walk and drive for long periods of time
  • Primary work activities are in the environmental elements
  • The employee is exposed to wet or humid conditions
  • Exposed to inclement seasonal weather, summer heat, cold weather, rain

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Vineyards, work vehicle, laboratory. Primary work activities are in environmental elements.
