Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Administrator Nights (Prior Leadership Exp Req) - LOH. In this role, the successful candidate facilitates the provision of patient care services; coordinates nursing resources; supports, guides and serves as clinical consultant to local nursing leadership and staff; represents the hospital to the patients, families and external agencies as required; serves as a liaison between nursing staff, hospital administration, and other departments and disciplines regarding patient care and other related matters during the evening, night and weekend hours

Job Responsibilities:

    • Initiates informal and formal self-directed evaluation of individual and group performance and learning opportunities that arise from incidents or situations.
    • Coordinates, facilitates and prioritizes hospital-wide patient care services during the duration of the shift, using appropriate resources to problem solving.
    • Communicates patient care and family needs to other Departments, facilitating immediate solution and providing sufficient communication for follow-through.
    • Coordinates and facilitates patient flow based on special patient needs, acuity and staffing patterns.
    • Supports an environment of patient safety and a just culture.
    • Serves as a resource or contributor to other hospital departments in problem solving and developing innovative approaches to the provision of patient care services.
    • Provides guidance to unit and service leadership in effective utilization of resources to meet patient care needs. Coordinates scheduling and general assignments of nursing staff to optimally support patient care.
    • Communicates pertinent, value-added information to incoming Nurse Administrator(s), respective Nurse Managers, Directors of Nursing, and Vice President of Nursing and Patient Services, and pertinent hospital administrators, supporting effective exchange of information.
    • Exercises fair and effective labor relations, and timely intervention in conflict situations.
    • Demonstrates functional knowledge of union contract and Hospital policies that apply directly to working conditions of employees and management.
    • Represents the hospital on first-line response basis for patient, family, regulatory agencies, including provision of administrative authorization when indicated.
    • Participates in the implementation of the Nursing Strategic Plan.
    • Responds in emergency situations by supporting and utilizing professional sources.
    • Initiates emergency management response program to internal and external disasters, and participates in the evaluation of responses.
    • Participates in Nursing Leadership meetings, hospital-wide committees and other leadership meetings or activities as feasible.
    • Serves as a liaison between the leadership on premises and the administrator-on-call, Office of Public Affairs, Chief Medical Officer and others during hours that hospital administration is not present.
    • Provides guidance to the administrator-on-call in problem solving and facilitating patient services during their working hours.
    • Articulates, uses, and participates in the development of departmental, interdisciplinary, and service structure standards as feasible and as requested.
    • Participates in interviewing panels for various levels of leadership as requested, and provides recommendations to the decision-maker.
    • Demonstrates safe, effective and proficient direct patient care when opportunities arise.
    • Articulates and demonstrates expert nursing process when providing support and guidance to staff.
    • Supports emergency situations by facilitating rapid response, coordinating personnel, follow-through on communication with family members, other disciplines and administration.
    • Demonstrates ability to provide or find appropriate clinical resources for problem-solving patient care situations and trouble-shooting equipment or devices.
    • Articulates, uses, and participates in developing process standards in area of expertise.
    • Identifies situations that potentially or actually pose a threat to the safety of patients, visitors, or staff; intervenes to resolve the immediate issues, and communicates relevant information to the appropriate staff for longer-term follow-up.
    • Acts as a clinical and administrative resource to staff involved in potential or actual sentinel events, and reports the details through the appropriate risk management channels.
    • Keeps evening and night shift personnel updated on policy and procedure changes and other matters as they relate to staff.
    • Maintains clinical and leadership competency.
    • Develops and pursues a personal professional development plan.
    • Provides input to Nursing Education in assessment and identification of learning needs throughout the hospital.
    • Participates in orientation and development programs for staff and leadership as planned with Nurse Educators, Nurse Managers, Directors, and Hospital Administration.
    • Supports nursing staff attendance at education programs.
    • Conducts clinical rounds as feasible.
    • Maintains awareness of and uses evidence-based resources whenever applicable.
    • Maintains awareness of Departmental Quality & Performance Improvement Program, annual indicator selection and relevance to patient care areas.
    • Participates as feasible in conducting evaluation of standards and indicators selected.
    • Participates in data collection as requested for specific performance improvement projects.
    • Uses a systems approach to problem-solving that lends to aggregation of information, useful for program improvement and performance enhancement.

Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a BSN/MSN. RN Licensure/BLS/ACLS. Acute Care experience/previous leadership. Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, Basic Life Support Cert. Preferred Qualifications: Master's in Nursing or health-related degree preferred. Certification in Nursing Administration and/or clinical specialty preferred. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $114,540.90 - $154,350.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
