Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director-Occupational Therapy - Bellevue Hospital.

In this role, the successful candidateis responsible for planning, organizing and directing management and specialist staff for clinical services and educational programs in the Occupational Therapy Department.

Assists with the development and implementation of goals, policies and standards for OT services. Formulates, integrates, and implements policies, procedures and programs by identifying program needs, and planning required personnel, space and materials to provide for required needs of patient population.

Assists in planning specific program proposals by compiling, evaluating, analyzing, integrating, and interpreting data on program and rehabilitation needs. Evaluates OT needs and implements comprehensive, medically prescribed OT treatment to assigned patients in a supervised rehabilitation program. Works with a multidisciplinary team to achieve the mission of research, education, and patient care.

Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations core values and incorporates them into the performance of duties.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Orientation, education and training of staff. Conducts personnel interviews of prospective staff members for employment. Recommends staffing assignments for new employees and rotation assignments for staff. Assists in collection of data and rational for changes in departmental staffing patterns. Educates staff members on department protocol and procedures and functions as a resource of information. Develops for staff an organized integrated plan for ongoing clinical skills. Provides ongoing training to assist staff in professional development and maximizing staff competency.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Administer and manage academic Clinical Education of Occupational Therapy Interns with in establishing and implementing clinical program including number of students, schedules, and assignment of students to the department. In conjunction with the Assist.Director of OT in guiding our Staff and Senior OT in supervising OT interns.
    • Exhibits excellence in decision making. Makes sound judgment and suggestions for positive changes.
    • Assists in the individual units in the development of goals, standards, and criteria to be utilized in quality assurance programs. Assists in the implementation of programs as needed. Maintains a relationship with the Quality Assurance Department to conduct programs. Maintains an awareness of issues that involve quality assurance as set by internal departments within Health and Hospitals Cooperation (HHC),and external agencies.
    • Communication/relationships with others. Evaluates the need for equipment recommended for use in the department. Maintains a supply of equipment necessary for departmental use and resale to patients. Establishes prices for resale equipment for patients and revises then in accordance with Medical Center guidelines and procedures. Determines the need for repair of departmental equipment and takes steps to make repairs according to established procedures. Establishes a dialogue with vendors, purchasing department, manufacturer, etc. in order to be current on equipment available and methods of procurement.
    • Serves on medical center committees as indicated by Director and Administration. Establishes lines of communication with management personnel of other departments, administrators, and physicians to enhance and facilitate departmental operations.
    • Implementation and documentation of treatment plan and interventions. Assists in preparation of the department yearly budget. Maintains an up-to-date awareness of reimbursement policies and procedure of third party payers. Makes recommendations for cost containment procedures on a regular basis.
    • In conjunction with supervisory staff in respective units provides supervision and development of patient care activities. Assesses the need for new programs in the areas of patient care, staff development, research, and education, and recommends programs to meet defined departmental needs. Assists in the data collection, format development and preparation of reports required for administration, physicians, and outside agencies. Assists in the written preparation of developing patient care programs, educational activities and research endeavors. Plans and organizes personnel, equipment and space needs for implementation of necessary and approved programs.
    • Establishes clinical guidelines as it relates to department programs. Develops performance standards and initiates performance improvement projects for OT intervention by observing and communicating with staff in the implementation of their programs. Monitors and upgrades treatment modalities being used. Reviews the validation of treatment techniques used by staff. Suggests and presents well thought out ideas for the development of new procedures to streamline programs to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Ensures that staff is aware of polices and implements them in their daily routine. Monitors that staff acts in accordance with regulatory and department policies and maintains efficiency of work.
    • Respects, maintains and demonstrates confidentiality of all clinical, staff and organization related information. Demonstrates an understanding of and compliance with the ethical code of conduct.
    • Demonstrates a high level of leadership and uses it to enhance departmental growth within the hospital. Plans a program growth for self through workshops, higher education, professional literature, professional association membership to maintain and increase professional competency. Participates in presentation of lectures and/or workshops. Plans and executes departmental in-service programs, which are pertinent to the entire staff.
    • Evaluation and monitoring of staff performance through timely performance evaluations. Consistently conveys to the director the concerns, attitude, and the morale of the staff. Assists in brainstorming and decision making concerning staff issues to improve and ensure the smooth operation of the department. Provides guidance and assistance to staff members who are exhibiting performance difficulties as documented in performance evaluations. When indicated, appropriately implements the Medical Centers disciplinary process. Assists in the preparation of performance evaluations of the supervisory staff and monitors performance on an ongoing basis.
    • Demonstrates respect for all staff members and colleagues. Honors the privacy of others and the right of others to be heard and informed. Cooperates and communicates effectively and harmoniously with all. Understands the value of diversity and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have aBachelors Degree in health related field.
New York State Occupational Therapist license.
NBCOT membership.
Minimum of 10 years progressive management experience in OT, including 5 years in supervision. Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in professional area, OT related field, or health management. Membership in professional organizations. Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $110,479.20 - $184,132.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
