New York is leading the nation in the fight on global climate change and the transition to a clean energy-powered economy. The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) has created the most aggressive climate change goals in the nation and requires an ambitious agenda that blends proven catalysts with innovative approaches while operating across a broader energy arena that is rapidly evolving. New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda. NYSERDA works with stakeholders that span residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:
Climate hazards pose unique challenges to the more than six million buildings in New York State today. Historical flood maps show that approximately 700,000 New Yorkers live in “flood-prone” zones, with many more working, traveling, or recreating in these areas. As we invest in building decarbonization, we must also design for the future climate risks projected in the coming decades and center climate justice. NYSERDA is building a team that will ensure that resiliency is integrated into our ambitious clean energy programs which prioritizes the most vulnerable New Yorkers.
New York State’s Scoping Plan establishes a statewide framework for the clean energy transition and climate resilience, including key strategies on incorporating climate-informed design standards and creating new resources for building owners to understand their risks. Additionally, with the passage of the 2022 Clean Water, Clean Air, and Green Jobs Bond Act, Green Buildings have been identified as an eligible use of a portion of the bond funds. As such, the planning and engineering analysis associated with readying existing buildings for the future energy landscape is expected to increase.
The Project Manager, Climate Resilience position will support NYSERDA’s Climate Resilience Lead to support internal and external resiliency efforts. The position will work to ensure NYSERDA as an organization, and buildings programs in particular, are preparing for future climate risks as they decarbonize.
