NYSERDA is Hiring a Project Manager, Clean Transportation Near Albany, NY

New York is leading the nation in the fight on global climate change and the transition to a clean energy-powered economy. The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) has created the most aggressive climate change goals in the nation and requires an ambitious agenda that blends proven catalysts with innovative approaches while operating across a broader energy arena that is rapidly evolving. New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda. NYSERDA works with stakeholders that span residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:

  • Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.
  • Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.
  • Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably from energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Job Overview

This role will require frequent coordination with internal NYSERDA administrative counterparts, program implementation contractors, in addition to maintaining close working relations with public and private sector partners.

The successful candidate will also support the Clean Transportation Team’s established EV charging incentive programs by streamlining processes, spearheading operations improvement and effecting program changes that respond to changing market dynamics and New York State mandates. The position also includes opportunities to shape clean transportation policy development at the State and Regional levels.

Clean Transportation initiatives this candidate may interact with include:

  • Innovation initiatives around electric vehicles and public transportation
  • Additional policy & program initiatives

This position requires someone with strong project management skills, attention to detail and experience with customer-facing programs. Additionally, solid interpersonal communication, time management and problem-solving skills are a must.

Established technical knowledge of EV chargers, electric vehicles and electric utility programs is preferred. An understanding of clean transportation policy, and/or environmental policy is also preferred. The successful candidate will serve as project manager on several projects/programs at once and be responsible for overseeing various workstreams that ensure the successful operations of the programs. Ability to work in a cross-functional team and experience with business operations, customer-facing programs, program design and public administration are preferred.

The Project Manager will be expected to travel approximately 5-10% of professionally committed time to meet with team members, stakeholders and potential partners.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support NYSERDA's EV charging programs throughout the program development and execution process and collaborate with other agencies (NYSDOT, NYSDEC, DPS, NYPA) on EV charging program development and execution

    • Oversee program implementation contractor workstreams
    • Provide project management and contracting support
    • Maintain key program documents, agreements, applications and other documentation
    • Respond to external inquiries about program status and funding
    • Coordination with internal administrative teams, IT systems, Legal, Data Governance, etc.
    • Manage program databases (internal and external)
    • Identify and pursue opportunities for program improvement including ways NYSERDA can better address equity in transportation
    • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a wide range of innovative and complex projects independently and simultaneously under deadline, including developing and managing workplans and budgets and overseeing consultant work products
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and manage both contractors and coordinate with internal teams
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills along with proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment
  • Technical knowledge of electric vehicle charging systems and technology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing scopes of work and managing contracts with third party partners and/or consultants
