JOB DESCRIPTION: Nursing Home Activities Assistants are responsible for assessing residents' past and present recreation interests and planning and implementing programs. Programs must be regularly scheduled throughout the residents' waking hours. Recreation programming should be developed to enhance the quality of life for residents.

Employees will be required to work a minimum of 28 hours each bi-weekly pay period. In addition, per diem employees must work the equivalent of one weekend per month. This can be one full weekend, or broken down into 2 Saturdays, 2 Sundays, etc. Up to full-time hours may be available.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 12 semester credit hours in therapeutic recreation, arts, crafts, dance, drama, or physical education and one year of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting*

2. a high school or high school equivalency diploma and two years of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting*

3. four years of experience in direct client care in a geriatric setting*

*Direct client care experience includes, but is not limited to, attending to patients’ personal hygiene, grooming, nutrition, and daily living needs. Examples of geriatric settings include, but are not limited to skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, and adult day care facilities, and senior centers.
