Primary Role:

This position supports Grades PK-12. Day porters will work in close contact with students and staff. 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Follow routine cleaning a cleaning schedule that will include: cleaning of floors, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms
  • Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean
  • Respond to calls for clean up of spills, bodily fluids, and more
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash
  • Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed
  • Assist with room set ups, including arranging tables and chairs
  • Perform preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff
  • Report building repair needs to custodial supervisor
  • Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by custodial supervisor
  • Assist in setting up facilities for special events
  • Assist with opening and closing building each school day
  • Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities
  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately
  • Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position

  • Maintain professional interactions with staff, parents, community and visitors
  • Demonstrate the ability to remain calm and withstand pressures
  • Demonstrate flexibility to change in routine and adapt quickly to changing situations
  • Demonstrates respect, courteous to peers and visitors and assist fellow workers willingly
  • Work with frequent interruptions
  • Work around machinery with moving parts
  • Work on slippery surfaces

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience working with children and adults.
  • Custodial/ Janitorial or maintenance experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license preferre
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
  • Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of minor repair techniques 
  • Lifting (45 pounds and over)

 Shift:

This role will work Monday through Friday

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation for this role is set at an hourly rate ranging between $15.50 for 0 years of experience up to $22.94. An additional $1 per hour will be paid for the second shift

Essential Functions:

Regular and Reliable Attendance.

Physical abilities include but are not limited to physical strength and agility required to operate cleaning, waxing and other equipment, to safely lift and carry furniture, cleaning equipment and bags of trash, and to repeatedly bend, stoop and twist. Ability to climb stairs and ladders. Ability to carry up to 50 pounds; Working conditions include standing and/or walking for long periods of time and potential exposure to body fluids. Ability to work well under pressure, and with minimal supervision. Positions may require the ability to work irregular hours or to rotate shifts.
