The Team You’ll Work With
The NYC I-Team seeks three (3) I-Team Project Directors to lead the day-to-day management of
analysis, idea-generation activities, and initiative development and implementation. The Project
Directors will report to the I-Team Director and work closely with a team of 10 interdisciplinary
problem-solvers to engage agency staff, external experts, community organizations and NYC residents
to co-design effective, impactful solutions to persistent urban problems.

The first of its kind in NYC, the I-Team aims to advance innovative and equitable solutions founded in
research, global best practices, quantitative and qualitative data, and the lived experiences of New
Yorkers. The Project Director must be a believer in government as a way to solve big problems, curious
about ways to make government work better, and committed to community engagement as a critical
foundation upon which to build effective and equitable solutions.

The Problems You’ll Solve
I-Team Project Director

The NYC I-Team seeks three (3) I-Team Project Directors to lead the day-to-day management of
analysis, idea-generation activities, and initiative development and implementation. The Project
Directors will report to the I-Team Director and work closely with a team of 10 interdisciplinary

problem-solvers to engage agency staff, external experts, community organizations and NYC residents
to co-design effective, impactful solutions to persistent urban problems.

Yorkers. The Project Director must be a believer in government as a way to solve big problems, curious

Responsibilities

  • Establishing strong relationships with partners, including government officials, private and
nonprofit sector leaders, and residents;
  • Researching specific policy areas that are priorities of the City and Mayor;
  • Consulting with internal and external experts in order to fully understand the problem and
generate innovative, feasible solutions;
  • Leading the idea-generation process to develop new, innovative solutions;
  • Providing support to partners in government in the development and execution of
implementation plans; and
  • Ensuring effective outcome and indicator measuring tools are used for performance monitoring

and communicating progress to team members.

About You
Successful candidates for the I-Team Project Director position will have experience managing a high-
performing team and monitoring their progress towards a goal; policy analysis and development
experience; direct experience working with government and/or private sector leaders; and the ability
to thoughtfully communicate with and respectfully engage diverse stakeholders around a shared vision
for achieving results. A dedication to using innovative approaches to finding impactful solutions to the
complex issues facing city governments and taking risks to test bold ideas, while always keeping
residents in mind, is a must.

Applicants who demonstrate outstanding communications, analytic, writing and interpersonal skills will
be of greatest interest. Other qualifications include:

  • A record of delivering significant results and impact in the civic sector;
  • The ability to delegate tasks and work in team settings effectively;
  • Comfort with establishing targets and delivering measurable results;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Urban

Studies, Multi-media studies, Architecture, Design or related discipline; advanced degree
preferred;

  • Eight or more years of experience in civic tech, community development, public policy, civic
design, urban planning, project management and/or related fields/areas

Salary
The City of New York Office of the Mayor’s compensation package includes a market competitive
salary, equity for all full-time roles and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation range for this role
is $120,000 to $140,000.

Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise, and other
factors.
