Job Description:

1. Directs the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the infection prevention and control program

  • Provides leadership & management of the facility wide infection prevention and control program which includes the inpatient, outpatient and behavioral services
  • Directs the development and implementation of evidence-based interventions designed to reduce or eliminate the risks for hospital associated infections and/or disease transmission
  • Develops and reviews facility wide and department specific infection prevention and control policies and procedure and ensures they are compliant with current regulatory standards
  • Maintains excellent collaborative relations with key stakeholders/departments including but not limited to OHS, Nursing, ED, Ambulatory, Peri Op, L &D, CSP, Dialysis and various other clinical specialties
  • Ensures facility's compliance with mandates and recommendations from CMS/NHSN, NYSDOH, TJC, CDC, OSHA/PESH, ASHRAE, other regulatory and accrediting agencies and professional associations
  • o Monitors the effectiveness and compliance with the HAI prevention initiatives to ensure targeted goals are meto Develops and keeps the annual IPC plan currento Performs data analysis, coordinate data collection, ensures data collected are reliable, accurate and valido Knowledgeable about NHSN HAI definitions and reporting processo Knowledgeable with the use of EPIC dashboard, HERDS and NYCDOH and NYSDOH reporting processo Ensures timely review of EPIC IPC dashboard and NHSN alertso Ensures timely submission of CMS/NHSN, NYSDOH mandatory reports including daily HERDSo Leads the TJC preparation for infection control standard complianceo Leads the staff on epidemiological investigations of significant clusters or outbreaks of infection above established thresholdo Maintains state of readiness of the facility during outbreaks as part of Emergency Preparedness2. Collaborates with the Chairperson of the Infection Prevention and Control Committee in running the Committee
  • Conducts IPC risk assessment, program annual evaluation & develops program goals and objectives, priorities and strategies
  • Organizes and coordinates regular and special meetings of the IPCC
  • Implements surveillance activities approved by the IPCC, track and trend data, analyzes surveillance data and initiates performance improvement initiatives based on evidence-based interventions
  • Evaluates the IC Program once a year, addressing the effectiveness of infection control interventions and redesigning them as needed

3. Fosters a work environment conducive to building motivated and productive work force4. Provides consultation and expert guidance on infection control related issues to other departments and services

  • Trains and develops core competencies of staff
  • Conducts regular staff meetings
  • Performs staff performance appraisal, competency assessment/checklist and evaluations
  • Motivates staff to incorporate the system's ICARE principles in their performance
  • Participates in the hiring, evaluation and termination of assigned staff in accordance with the NYH H standard HR policies and procedure
  • Acts as the SME for infection prevention and control
  • Collaborates with Engineering and Facilities for ICRA and provide expert review and consultation for all facility construction activities
  • Conducts/leads environment of care rounds
  • Provides support to ID and Pharmacy to promote Antibiotic stewardship Program
  • Evaluates patient care environments and facility services (Dialysis, Sterile Processing, EVS, Food and Nutrition, etc) for infection control practices and risks

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Holds and maintains Certification in Infection Control (CIC) issued by the Certification Board of Infection
Control and Epidemiology (CBIC); and,
2. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Microbiology, Medical
Technology, Public Health, Nursing or a related field; and one (1) year of satisfactory full-time paid
experience in a responsible administrative, managerial or supervisory capacity, in the development of
infection prevention and control programs, analysis and reporting of health care-associated infections, and
other related infection prevention and control functions in a hospital or a health care setting; or
3. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in fields, as described in “2” above; and three (3)
years of satisfactory, full-time paid progressively responsible experience, as described in “2” above, one (1)
year of which must have been in a responsible administrative, managerial, or supervisory capacity; or
4. A satisfactory equivalent of education, training, and/or experience. However, all candidates must have at
least a Bachelor’s degree in fields, as described in “2” above, and hold and maintain a CIC Certification.
