NYC Department of Education is Hiring a Multimedia Specialist of Digital Media - 23419 Near Manhattan, NY

Position Summary: The Division of Family and Community Engagement and External Affairs (FACE EA) includes a diverse portfolio of offices, including Family and Community Engagement, Marketing, Intergovernmental Affairs, Knowledge Management, Office of Language Access, Press Office, and Communications. These teams work together to assist the Chancellor in serving the largest school system in the country, composed of approximately 1 million students and ensure that parents, students, and all New York City communities have the information they need to be informed advocates for their children, neighborhoods, and schools.
Under the supervision of the Director of Digital Media, the Multimedia Specialist of Digital Media creates engaging content for publicity and educational purposes, including print/digital photography and video content for publications, websites, and social media platforms, and applies innovative, creative thinking to communicate the New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) vision. Performs related work.
Reports to: Director of Digital Media

Key Relationships: Press Secretary, Director of Marketing and Deputy Director of Digital Media.
Responsibilities
  • Support the planning, identification, and dissemination of multimedia and photography content across a variety of formats and platforms, including website, X, Facebook, Instagram, and other digital and social media outlets
  • Create high-quality digital media content with a deep understanding of using different cameras and digital formats, including shooting short videos with a DSLR Sony mirrorless professional camera and audio and lighting gear.
  • Maintain, develop, and optimize NYCPS's existing digital and social media platform strategies, including establishing a new presence on emerging platforms for schools and families.
  • Work within the digital team and across NYCPS offices on social media projects with tight deadlines.
  • Researching and staying updated on digital and social media trends and best practices for NYCPS while managing and growing online student and family communities and interactions.
  • Create and publish quality digital and social media storytelling and short videos using photography, videography, and text to inform and engage our audience of students and families accurately.
  • Manage project inception, pre-production planning, scheduling, video/photo shoots, editing, and product delivery supporting NYCPS social media channels.
  • Ability to strongly understand and provide recommendations on captioning and video-related techniques to meet WCAG 2.0 Success Criteria for making Web content more accessible.
  • Participate in the development and execution of live streams on digital and social media.
  • Supervise and direct photo and video shoots for social media purposes.
  • Engage with our online community, promptly responding to comments, messages, and inquiries and professionally monitoring all social media outlet channels.
  • Create products within accessibility standards WCAG 2.0 AA; provide captioning and audio description for social media.
  • Support and collaborate with photo/video requests across the agency for social media.
  • Maintain productive relationships with agency staff for purposes of obtaining information of interest to the public, and managing and creating social media accounts and spaces.
Qualification RequirementsMinimum
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of professional experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in “1” above.
Preferred
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, self-starter, proactive, and energetic.
  • Ability to multitask while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity using X, Facebook and Instagram to drive campaigns and other content.
  • PC literate with knowledge and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.
  • Highly proficient in current Adobe Creative Suite programs (primarily Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop and After Effects) using a Mac.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a variety of settings and multicultural environments.
  • Ability to work with a variety of subjects, including children.
  • Knowledge of and work experience with education policy.
  • Familiarity with the NYCPS system.
  • Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Experienced and effective public speaker and presenter.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexibility, creativity and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Experience working with elected officials and New York City government officials.
  • Fluency in Spanish or Chinese.
Salary: $79,000 - $91,533
(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
