Job Description

NYCHA’s Department of Resident Services, Partnerships, and Initiatives (RSPI) seeks an experienced Community Relations Coordinator to support its Community Relations Unit within the Office of Public and Private Partnerships (OPPP).
Community Relations staff are diplomats and facilitators who support escalations around community programming, relationship management and facility improvements at NYCHA’s 350 community spaces. They regularly meet with key community partners, including other city agency representatives, community business organizations and service providers. Similarly, they liaise with internal NYCHA departments, including Property Management, Asset and Capital Management, Technical Resources, and Intergovernmental Affairs.
These Coordinators are expected to work independently, and with discretion, providing regular updates to their management. Above all, Community Relations Coordinators are excellent communicators who can clearly document and track their partner interactions, and who know how and when to properly escalate sensitive topics. A great candidate will lead with empathy, and warmth, always striving to cultivate stronger relationships with partners, colleagues and NYCHA residents. They will think strategically about the issues escalated to them and consider how to solve these problems by leveraging the strong network of relationships they and their colleagues have built.
Community Relations Coordinators must travel to NYCHA community spaces in all 5 boroughs, looping in the correct stakeholders to improve the programs and facilities for residents. Each interaction is an opportunity to serve, and Community Relations Coordinators capitalize on that opportunity by coming up with win-win solutions that serve residents, partners and NYCHA alike.
Reporting to the Director of Public and Private Partnerships, responsibilities of the Community Relations Coordinator will include, but not limited to the following:
1. Support RSPI’s mission of connecting residents to services, opportunities, and resources by strengthening partnerships and advocating for the use of community spaces across NYCHA’s portfolio.
2. Maintain and grow key relationships with Resident Leaders, Center Providers, Agency Partners and NYCHA frontline staff to ensure that those stakeholders can independently work together to solve repair and relationship challenges.
3. Organize, coordinate, and facilitate both in-person and virtual meetings between key stakeholders.
4. Document meeting notes, partner interactions and site visits in the Partnership Database.
5. Collaborate with RSPI’s Resident Services Division when connecting with Resident Association Boards and PACT partner sites.
6. Make direct connections between Center providers and internal NYCHA departments when appropriate.
7. Direct center inquiries and project tasks to the appropriate NYCHA departments and communicate status updates from those stakeholders back to the center program providers.
8. Escalate complex or senior stakeholder inquiries to management, including escalations by elected officials, City Hall, and NYCHA Executives.
9. Represent the Office of Public and Private Partnerships and NYCHA at external resident, community, and citywide events.
10. Respond to time-sensitive requests from management, re-prioritizing deliverables throughout the week to accommodate last-minute and high-priority requests.
11. Contribute to OPPPs departmental reporting and data tracking and analytics.
Additional Information
1. NYCHA employees applying for promotional, title or level change opportunities must have served a period of one year at current location and in current title and level (if applicable).
2. NYCHA residents are encouraged to apply.
