JOB DESCRIPTION:
The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Equity & Inclusion is responsible for overall organizational development and implementation of the New York City Police Department's Equity and Inclusion programs and strategic framework. The goal of the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) is to foster equity through policy and regulation, both in and out of the workplace, and to increase supplier diversity for the New York City Police Department (NYPD). This is accomplished through transparency and accountability by applying nationwide best practices with our internal and external stakeholders.
The Associate Public Information Specialist's primary responsibly will be to serve as public and media relations for the Office of Equity and Inclusion. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Preparation of written correspondence including speeches for Deputy Commissioner, Equity and Inclusion when attending department related conferences and speaking engagements.
2. Maintenance of all media equipment utilized for social media and archival purposes.
3. Research and networking with department liaisons to keep informed of all activities for informational purposes.
4. Creation of daily social media postings on all department social media platforms that relate to the mission and focus of Office of Equity and Inclusion.
5. Recording of podcast episodes including conferral with team leaders for episode content and guess attendees.
6. Recording participant testimonials at OEI events.

Mon-Fri; 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
1. A master's degree in journalism or public relations from an accredited college; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in public relations, journalism or advertising; or
3. An associate degree or completion of 60 credits from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in public relations, journalism or advertising; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least 60 credits from an accredited college.
For Assignment Level II
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements described above for Assignment Level I, at least one additional year of the full-time experience in public relations, journalism, or advertising.

Preferred Skills
Applicant should excel in writing, possess strong interpersonal skills. Must possess proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint specifically). Familiarity with Canva application.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
