Overview:

Position Summary:

Nusano has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer at our Salt Lake City Utah facility. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work with the Mechanical Engineering team to provide support for radioisotope production efforts as a primary member of an agile multi-discipline project team responsible for the research & development of next generation radiochemical processing systems and radioisotope drug manufacturing equipment. To execute this project, we are looking to add talented people to the team who are mission-driven, who provide diverse perspectives, and who have demonstrated exceptional results through a range of different pursuits. This role will be primarily responsible for taking ownership of projects from concept to operational deployment, driving CAD designs, fabrication drawings, and BOMs of the project. This role will also be the primary technical interface with selected fabricators and manufacturers, including on-site visits, progress inspections and technical reviews.

Responsibilities:

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with both chemists and physicists, as well as engineers and technical support staff, to develop designs for complex new devices requiring innovative designs and critical high-level analysis
  • Support the physical design, fabrication, integration, testing and validation of device prototypes
  • Take full ownership of projects from conception to operational deployment and beyond
  • Generate high-fidelity CAD designs and detailed fabrication and assembly drawings from technical requirements.
  • Carry out design analysis, identify potential problems, and independently or collaboratively develop solutions
  • Manage projects with efficient utilization of staff, schedule, and budget
  • Direct activities, equipment, and staff assignments to ensure technical support meets costing and schedule objectives
  • Develop test plans and participate in tests in qualify and evaluate the performance of equipment
  • Present project results and designs and respond to questions concerning engineering design and operation
  • Provide oral and written reporting on project status to project and upper management stakeholders
  • Work with vendors and internal resources to fabricate, assemble, and validate components and systems
  • Perform with a safety mindset at the forefront of all work
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Related professional work experience (7 years)
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical requirements, equipment specifications, engineering procedures, and regulatory guidance documents (2 years)
  • Fully proficient in 3D CAD Design and drafting in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM (4 years)
  • Proficient with FEA software, preferably ANSYS mechanical, to conduct structural/thermal analyses (2 years
  • Substantial technical experience with advanced knowledge and judgment in most of the following areas:
    • Precision kinematics, linear motion stages, linkages, pneumatics, and mechanism design
    • Design, installation, commissioning, and operation of precision scientific instrumentation
    • Welding, machining, and mechanical assembly processes and techniques
    • 3D CAD Design and drafting in SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM
    • Project management abilities defined as the ability to control scope, cost, and schedule
    • Metrology, inspection, quality control, and test methods related to manufacturing
  • Ability to supervise and safely direct activities of small teams of technical personnel
  • Ability to interact and communicate efficiently with researchers, scientists, engineers, designers, machinists, and engineering technicians to provide a high level of customer service
  • Fully proficient with digital productivity tools (Microsoft Office products)
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and rapid learning

Preferred Requirements:

  • Masters Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Direct experience with high-voltage systems, high or ultra-high vacuum systems, and/or ion optical systems
  • Direct experience with chemical and/or radiochemical processing equipment
  • Direct experience with medical device and/or drug manufacturing equipment
  • Familiarity with FDA quality and regulatory requirements of drug manufacturing equipment
  • GD&T and P&ID proficiency within ASME Standards
  • Leadership experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift, push, and/or pull a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be comfortable working in a facility that produces radiation.
  • Work to be conducted in both an office environment and the production facility.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Frequent use of computer with repetitive use of keyboard, mouse, and manual dexterity.
  • 2-8 weeks of travel per year for site visits, visiting vendors, and attending conferences

Posted Salary Range:
USD $120,000.00 - USD $150,000.00 /Yr.
