Overview

Position Summary:

We are looking for a highly skilled Accelerator Specialist Manager to lead a team of technical specialists responsible for testing, installing, commissioning, repairing, and managing components and subsystems used in particle accelerator components and systems for Nusano's novel particle accelerator.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do:

  • Build and manage a technical specialist team responsible for testing, installing, commissioning, repairing, and managing components, and subsystems used in particle accelerators.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of testing protocols to ensure equipment meets specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify testing requirements, specifications, and test plans.
  • Oversee the construction and implementation of custom test equipment to streamline troubleshooting, increase safety, and reduce downtime.
  • Monitor technical progress, provide regular updates to stakeholders, including key performance indicators, and manage timelines to ensure that projects are delivered on schedule.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Update relevant stakeholders with findings to improve current systems and future developments company-wide.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, and customers to ensure testing procedures align with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Manage testing budgets, resource allocation, staffing requirements, and workforce development.
  • Develop and oversee equipment risk, criticality, and condition assessment programs.
  • Establish and oversee Accelerator Operation Asset Management.
  • Establish and oversee predictive maintenance programs.
  • Understand organizational safety protocols, customize them to suit team needs, and ensure compliance.
  • Establish and ensure accurate/efficient document management.
  • Ensure R&D Engineering aligns with accelerator equipment modifications.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field with at least 5 years of experience. Relevant work experience may be substituted for education. 
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with at least 3 years of experience managing technical teams.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and experience troubleshooting one or more of the following: electrical, electronic, mechanical, vacuum, RF, electromagnet, cryogenic, controls, and high voltage systems.
  • Experience following and writing formal procedures and understanding technical drawings and schematics.
  • Competent with digital productivity (Microsoft Office products).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with advanced Asset and Maintenance Management systems.
  • Experience operating cranes and performing general heavy lift operations.
  • Experience installing, operating, and upgrading particle accelerator systems.
  • Experience operating and maintaining particle beam diagnostic devices.
  • Experience working with and diagnosing distributed control systems, including analog and digital I/O, parallel and serial data bus instrumentation, and PLC devices.
  • Experience with electrical work (cable assembly, soldering, testing, etc.)
  • Skilled with the use of CAD and simulation software.
  • Experience with high-voltage and high-power electrical systems.
  • Experience with RF systems and vacuum-electron devices (tubes, klystrons, IOTs).
  • Fluency with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Data acquisition and processing.
  • Experience with the EPICS control system toolkit.
  • Experience with project management and systems engineering, including Work Breakdown Structure.
  • Experience with high-precision metrology systems such as laser trackers, laser scanners, and CMM arms.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work to be conducted in an office environment, laboratories, and/or production environment.
  • Must be comfortable working within radiation environments and/or GMP. 
  • Participate in radiological activities that require following extensive safety precautions and use of protective equipment, e.g., respirators and multiple layers.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Frequent use of a computer with repetitive use of a keyboard, mouse, and manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and/or pull a maximum of 50 pounds. 
  • Ability to travel 2-8 weeks per year for site visits, visiting vendors, and attending conferences.
