SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to the Basic Professional Knowledge/Education Requirements described above, qualified candidates must have a thorough current understanding of the principles, theories, and practices in one or more relevant fields of physical science or engineering gained through several years of specialized professional experience. For this position, specialized experience is defined as work experience applying any of a variety of relevant physical science or engineering disciplines in the performance of duties similar to those described above in the industries of nuclear power and/or nuclear materials. NOTE: In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.Responsibilities:
Serves as a region-based senior inspector to lead, plan, conduct, report, and integrate findings associated with routine and the most complex or exceptionally difficult emergency preparedness inspections (including those arising from allegations) of light-water reactors, in accordance with the NRC Manual, Chapter 2515. Evaluates and responds to safety, security, radiological and/or environmental issues surrounding emergency events at nuclear facilities, including emergency response readiness, exercises and drills, and event response activities. Independently plans, determines scope of and coordinates the inspection schedule. Coordinates and leads entrance and exit interviews with licensee management. Assigns areas of inspection to team members, coordinates team member activities, and monitors/evaluates the progress of team inspection effort. Takes the lead in resolving more complex, exceptionally difficult, generic or significant emergency preparedness issues. Prepares individual reports and coordinates team reports of inspection findings to document whether the facility is being operated safely, the licensee's management control program is effective, and regulatory requirements are being satisfied. Identifies issues that require enforcement decisions and independently proposes and coordinates an appropriate enforcement approach with the Branch Chief and other NRC offices/divisions. Takes the lead for presenting findings and approaches in enforcement briefings, panels and conferences.Full Time
