POSITION SUMMARY

The Vice President of Operations is responsible for leading all activities within Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain and Logistics, Quality, and Continuous Improvement to deliver results in support of NSI Industries strategic business plan. This position is responsible for managing and ensuring the efficient, effective, and safe operation of the production and manufacturing support areas while successfully driving continuous improvement in safety, product quality, cost, production, facilities, on-time delivery, employee satisfaction, and other key performance metrics. The Vice President will lead production to meet or exceed facility goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for overall performance of the manufacturing and distribution operations
  • Responsible for the development, execution, and return on investment capital expenditures.
  • Lead daily manufacturing communications with site leads, department managers and supervisors to review current safety, quality levels, production attainment, open issues, and resolution of issues.
  • Direct the review of job standards, develop cost studies and systems for optimum efficiency and profitability.
  • Review labor and material requirements to minimize overtime and labor variance while ensuring customer delivery requirements are achieved.
  • Direct problem-solving activities in the manufacturing operations and ensure permanent resolution.
  • Develop production schedules to assure sales and financial targets are achieved and market demands are satisfied.
  • Drive continuous improvement in production integration relative to quality, cost, and speed to market.
  • Ensures that the facility is in full compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations.
  • Works closely with Sales, NPD, and Production Team on review and feedback of late change orders, special instructions, and production schedule changes.
  • Identifies and develops opportunities for material cost reductions while maintaining or improving product quality; establishes cost reduction targets annually.
  • Establishes professional working relationships with suppliers, communicates priorities for critical shipments and provides accurate monthly and annual material forecasts; holds accountability for on-time delivery performance.
  • Takes a pro-active role with other company employees in assessing present raw material fulfillment and logistics practices and works with appropriate internal and external groups to initiate and execute process improvements.
  • Drives sustainable lean processes into all parts of the business.
  • Leads purchasing department in identifying and developing actions for material cost reductions while maintaining or improving product quality.
  • Works with Sourcing and Supply Chain to facilitate communication of component quality issues with key internal and external stake holders to provide timely resolution of non-conformities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree (preferably in manufacturing, engineering, or technical area).
  • Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • 10 years manufacturing management experience managing a workforce of at least 400 hourly employees in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing multi-site manufacturing operations.
  • Financial acumen (ability to understand and interpret the impact of actions to financial performance).
  • Application of quality and lean manufacturing processes and methodologies.
  • Leadership skills to champion and motivate change in a continuous improvement environment are essential.
  • Ability to sort through significant amounts of information and determine the areas of focus priority.
  • Experience with OSHA and EPA regulations preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of time standards, plant layout, and inventory management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for interaction at all levels.
  • Ability to motivate a team to accomplish goals.
  • Experience in a union environment is a plus.
  • Ability to travel 50% or more.
