NRHA aims to create and apply meaningful housing and neighborhood development programs to serve all residents of Norfolk, Virginia.NRHA looks for people who want to work in a challenging and progressive environment and make a positive difference in the community. About the Position NRHA seeks qualified candidates for the position of Heating and Plumbing Mechanic. The job holder performs routine maintenance, repairs, and replacements on heating and plumbing systems at public housing apartment units and buildings. The job holder routinely works with industrial and commercial boiler plant systems, and with non-boiler heating systems.Key responsibilities of this position include:Operating, maintaining, and repairing industrial boiler plants and associated equipment for heating, hot and cold water, and other household heating and plumbing services for public housing communities and authority-managed properties. Maintaining, repairing, and inspecting non-boiler heating systems of public housing communities and authority-managed properties. Monitoring industrial and commercial boiler plant systems. Responding and acting on routine and emergency boiler plant trouble calls; this position responds to emergency calls.Repairing underground piping.Operating, maintaining, and repairing heating co-generator systems. Coordinating and assisting coworkers, third-party contractors, utility companies, and others to assure completion of assigned heating and pluming work assignments or projects.Completing standard shop management documents, including work orders, inventory purchase orders, and timesheets.Performing emergency, on-call repairs.Attending training classes and maintaining current knowledge of heating system and boiler maintenance methods and techniques. The ideal candidate for this job will have: High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certification required. Vocational or technical school training in heating systems, HVAC systems, or boiler maintenance; apprenticeship or on-the-job training can be substituted. Three- to five-years of operation and maintenance experience with heat generation systems. Personal heating and plumbing tools are required. Current and valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record required. Candidates with a combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to the qualifications listed above will also be considered. Candidates with gas certification and/or boilermaker title will be preferred over other candidates as some work assignments may require those certifications. NRHA offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. The hiring pay range for the position is $37,440.00 to $56,763.20. The compensation offer will be determined by the candidate's work history and skill set.
