Goal Zero is seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to join our Quality Assurance team. They will be an integral member of the wider Product Development and Supply Chain team as Goal Zero develops the next generation of products.

You will be responsible for the quality of products in collaboration with our maintenance engineering team, with the role effectively handling all non-conformance issues that are captured from supplier through to customer returns. This includes validating and diagnosing RMA defects, evaluating and implementing potential solutions to defect trends or high impact incidents. Developing rework instructions, developing and maintaining Quality Inspection Standards, and managing manufacturing corrective actions (ie. ECRs, NCRs, SCARs, CAPAs). Working closely with the Product Development, Supply Chain and Maintenance Engineering teams, you will have both engineering skills and experience to handle technical product issues, a strong understanding of process flows and operations to handle manufacturing issues at our partners.

The ideal candidate can operate independently, handling projects from intake through completion, and will have a history of experience with various models and scales of manufacturing operations so they can be a driver for continuous improvement. A hands-on, technical approach to problem solving is essential to be successful in this role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work with local and global teams to execute NPD (New Product Development), Product Support, and Value Engineering projects.
  • Coordinate, track and implement product design changes (ECRs) with internal Product Maintenance team.
  • Coordinatethecorrective action system, including supplier corrective actions with contract manufacturers, to ensure root cause analysis and effective corrective/preventive action to ensure problem resolution and recurrence mitigation (SCARs, CAPAs).
  • Work with Engineering teams and external partners to troubleshoot electronic and mechanical failures and recommend repair actions required to resolve them.
  • Works closely with Regulatory engineer to maintain up-to-date listings when changes (ECRs) to design, critical components, or processes impact listings.
  • Maintains non-conforming goods and disposition management through MRB, corrective/preventative actions, customer complaints, audits for compliance and quality; internal quality reviews, contract manufacturers, and various third-party agencies.
  • Establish and maintain a framework and systems for collecting and analyzing product performance and reliability data, complemented by customer feedback.
  • Write and implement procedures governing the conduct of these activities including the data to be collected, reporting methods, etc.
  • Work closely with the Product Development team to deliver required product quality through robust documentation per a stage gate process, particularly during the NPI launch transition/hand-off phase, including collaborative development of Quality Inspection Standards.
  • Be responsible for the decision and follow-through in segregating & quarantining products when discrepancies are found, then presenting solutions and following through to resolution and release of inventory
  • Active member of the product safety committee that deals with incidents and root causes of potential hazardous failures of products. Will often take lead of RCA and corrective actions.
  • Direct incoming product audits and inspections as needed in collaboration with warehouse operations and quality inspectors both domestically and internationally.
  • Provide support for QA activities including audits, system reviews, and development of the QMS.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain team to manage contract manufacturers, understanding and improving their manufacturing processes to improve quality related to production.
  • Prepare and maintain quality-related documents such as Quality Standards, procedures, records of inspections, and WI (work instructions).
  • Manage documentation of historical corrective actions and ECRs, ensuring a comprehensive and accurate collection of documented changes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline,or equivalent experience in consumer electronics with 5 years of relatedworkexperience.
  • Extensive experience (>2years) working with contract manufacturing partners required, China a major plus.
  • Strong understanding of and experience with electrical and mechanical design and manufacturing fundamentals for consumer power electronics.
  • Experience with Hazardous Materials Class 9 (lithium batteries)
  • Dangerous Goods transportation requirements a benefit, similarly, experience with solar photovoltaics.
  • Strong background in statistical analysis and methodologies, Lean Six Sigma or similar advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Teams and Github tools for communication and collaboration.
  • Practical experience with assembly/disassembly of electronics using hand tools, as well as lab equipment used to diagnose and characterize circuit board behavior, including power suppliers, loads, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis methodologies, e.g. 8D, A3PS.
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment and perform technical analysis to draw robust conclusions.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Evening and weekend work as job duties demand, especially in collaborating and syncing up with overseas partners.
  • Domestic and international travel up to 20% may be required.
  • Lifting, bending, sitting, reaching, standing, manual dexterity may be required.
  • Light to medium physical effort required. Will handle an average-weight of objects that are 15-50 pounds.
  • This position requires walking, standing, and repetitive bending throughout the day.
  • Open office environment - Primarily- Onsite Draper UT - 4/1 Hybrid
