Position Overview

Novelis Oswego has an exciting opportunity for a Refractory Technician! Refractory technician will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining refractory in the department. Department equipment includes but is not limited to furnaces, troughing, hot caps and doors.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Installing, repairing, and maintaining refractory of department equipment and materials. This includes everything from the installation of new refractory, to the repair of damaged components
• Maintenance of many types refractory– castable, ram plastic, insulation board, precast shapes, etc.
• Read refractory blueprints.
• Full participation in all safety programs.
• Use email systems to effectively communicate within dept. and externally to other depts.
• Use Shop Floor Process Control Plan system to stay abreast of the latest process and product requirements whether Lotus Notes or Internet based (ETQ).
• Use the SAP system to put in maintenance or safety work orders as needed.
• Learn and perform basic maintenance tasks

Qualifications

• 2 year technical degree or 5 years applicable experience
• Communication skills, written and verbal
• Refractory experience including forming, mixing, and pouring castable refractory, ramming plastic refractory, install refractory shapes, fiber installation, etc.
• Ability to perform basic welding and torch cutting

Location Profile

Novelis’ Oswego facility is located on Lake Ontario in north-central New York and employs approximately 1100 people.
