Novelis Clayton Manufacturing Facility is Hiring an EHS Manager Near Clayton, NJ

Position Overview:
This position is responsible for coordinating EHS activities/projects to support risk reduction and continuous improvement of the EHS Management System, insure compliance with applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations, company policy/procedures and strive to reduce the company’s environmental foot print and improve safety performance. Incumbent is also responsible for driving safety culture throughout the plant and influencing a safety-focused mindset.
Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Establish and enforce policies and practices required to provide safe equipment, a safe working environment and safe work practices
  • Strategically and tactically own EHS policy, implement the EHS management system and ensure continual improvement of EHS performance in day to day operations
  • Influences Plant and partners with Production, Operations, Maintenance and site management to drive the EHS performance and results
  • Monitors changes to all EHS regulations pertaining to their area and reviews recommendations for incorporation into EHS management systems and standards in a timely manner
  • Accountable for managing site EHS documentation to include program design, EHS data collection and posting, training documentation, and EHS KPI reports
  • Manage site occupational health strategy, including managing site nurse.
  • Expand, continually, knowledge of Behavioral Safety principles and practices


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. in EHS or related technical field.
    • Preferred degree in Occupational Safety or Health or a related scientific discipline.
  • Requires minimum 5 years EHS experience required within a heavy manufacturing background
  • Experience running safety committees with union employees. Strongly preferred
  • Requires a thorough, in depth knowledge of all local, state and federal laws and regulations related to areas of responsibility
  • A high level of effectiveness in human relations skills and ability to clearly communicate is necessary
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work independently and also work with all levels of the workforce
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
  • Ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing process and business policy and practices
  • Desire to take initiative and develop a proactive relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and fostering a collaborative relationship
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
  • Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
  • Solid computer skills with software applications proficiency, particularly Microsoft Office applications
Location Profile:
Built in 1970 the Clayton facility employs more than 100 people and engages in a re-rolling and finishing operation that supplies foil and light-gauge non-heat treatable aluminum coiled sheet and products including semi-rigid formed container stock HVAC standard and automotive fin stock pharmaceutical closure stock spiral duct stock and distribution. The site is committed to supporting the local community through its ongoing volunteer initiatives promoting safety and education.
