**Compensation:** $21.9926 Reporting to the Manager of Business Development and Food Services, the Journeyman Cook prepares food for patients, families, visitors, staff, and catered. Duties included, but are not limited too;

Kitchen Duties:

Performs batch cooking and cooking for cafeteria and patient food service.

Prepares fruit and vegetable trays, and ingredients according to standardized recipes.

Clean, peel, slice, and trim food items using manual and electronic appliances.

Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.

Prepares food following safe food handling practices.

Garnishes foods following established guidelines.

Delivers food to trayline and replenishes during meal periods as necessary.

Assists with pre-preparation and storage of food as required.

Planning and Administrative Tasks:

Plans workload to incorporate batch cooking techniques.

Records quantities of food prepared and available for service prior to meal periods.

Records overproduced food remaining following meal service.

Reviews food and equipment needs with the Computer and Production Coordinator.

Participates in departmental quality assurance program.

Participates in training of new staff and interns.

Safety:

Assist in proper storage of food items.

Follow safe food handling practices.

Assist in maintaining work area and equipment in a clean and sanitary manner.

Identify and report problems related to food preparation, equipment, sanitation, and safety hazards to supervisor.

****Qualifications****

Minimum grade 12 or equivalent preparation to secondary school graduation (GED)

Journeyman certification (Red Seal)

Food Handlers Course and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training required

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Strong English verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work in a team.

Ability to build and maintain client satisfaction while offering services.

Ability to multitask.

Ability to attend to details and pursue quality in accomplishing tasks.

Ability to work under pressure.

Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
