NOVA ACADEMY is Hiring a College Advisor Near Santa Ana, CA

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide guidance and support to students and parents regarding college programs, dual enrollment, and the Early College High School model.
  • Develop, collect, and maintain a variety of materials, resources, and guides to support student and parent understanding of dual enrollment and college programs, including strategies to maximize high school and post-secondary success.
  • Collaborate with partnering post-secondary institutions to develop articulated course pathways for NOVA students, improve dual enrollment program offerings, and expand other aspects of the early college program based on the needs of the students, school, and community.

4. Assist NOVA students in dual enrollment course registration, provide guidance on course selection, and facilitate adding and dropping students as needed.

5. Submit appropriate waivers for NOVA students to partnering colleges and follow up with parents to complete all necessary forms in order for their students to participate in dual college enrollment.

6. Communicate regularly with college professors to monitor and follow up on students’ progress.

7. Develop intervention plans for students who are failing or at risk of failing their college courses.

8. Provide counseling and assistance to students, teachers, parents and counselors regarding college programs; coordinate day-to-day operations for the dual enrollment program; schedule and oversee related activities, events, and speakers.

9. Obtain, organize, and display guidance materials; catalog and prepare for use by students; maintain informational displays, bulletin boards, and other posted materials, as well as web based resources.

10. Develop instructional materials for use by teachers and students; counsel students in locating and using college and/or vocational information as needed for research, assignments, and post-secondary planning.

11. Prepare and deliver informational presentations for students, parent, or community; orient students to college and/or vocational resources and services available.

12. Plan and organize college and career events including field-trips; prepare letters, flyers, mailers, emails and other materials to publicize and promote college services, resources, and related opportunities for both parents and students.

13. Schedule campus visits by representatives from colleges; organize, coordinate and promote college-related events such as college fairs, and other opportunities for students to learn about higher education and vocational training.

  • Provide guidance and planning support to students regarding college pathways, post-secondary education, and/or vocational education programs.

15. Maintain detailed and comprehensive lists of currently available scholarships and other financial aid opportunities; provide counseling and support concerning specialized scholarships and assistance with completing application forms (e.g. FAFSA); provide print materials, bulletins, and online resources concerning scholarship and financial aid applications and availability.

16. Provide guidance regarding scholastic aptitude and achievement tests; assist students with registration and preparation; distribute test results as applicable.

17. Organize and schedule college placement (PSAT, SAT, ACT) and Advanced Placement (AP) exams.

18. Submit Dual Enrollment LCAP goal(s) to Head of School or designee as needed.

19. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Other:

  • Collaborate and assist Head of School or designee with parent education programs and events.
  • Work with the Head of School or designee to organize, staff, and lead special events such as the annual Distinguished Eagle Award Ceremony, Career Day, College Fairs, Multi-Cultural Day, graduation ceremony, and other events as assigned.
  • Participate in marketing and student recruitment events; assist with student enrollment and promotional activities, which may include evenings and/or weekends.
  • Serve as a back-up driver for shuttling students between the high school and college campuses, and other field trips as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess a Master of Arts degree in psychology, counseling or guidance accredited institution or be enrolled in a master’s program.

2. Possess a valid California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential, MFT or LCSW license.

3. At least two years of experience working with at-risk students.

4. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record as determined by NOVA Academy’s insurance carrier.

5. Department of Justice and criminal record clearances throughout length of employment.

6. Valid Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment or Test result at start of employment.

7. First Aid/AED/CPR certification.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Working knowledge of scope and sequence of scheduling high school and college classes.

2. Working knowledge of assisting students with dual enrollment and college programs.

3. Working knowledge of college and vocational programs, financial aid, and scholarships.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

1. Bilingual – ability to speak Spanish and English – preferred.

2. Knowledge of how to access college, vocational and community resources.

3. Detail-oriented and strong in follow-through.

4. Ability to develop rapport and trust with students and parents.

5. Possess a strong commitment to the core values, mission and vision of NOVA Academy.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $63,208.50 - $80,634.66 per year
