Job Description

The Graduate Assistant will work directly with the Director of Student Engagement & Community Programs to develop and implement large scale programs and events, as well as to design and implement leadership trainings to enhance the student experience and engagement on campus. Major responsibilities include: creating an environment consistent with the University's Catholic identity and commitment to the education of Notre Dame leaders, fostering holistic growth and development of students, promoting community development, providing support for educational and retention-driven programs, and assisting all student organizations with various programming initiatives.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  1. Provide support, input, and outreach for educational and retention-driven programs.
  2. Assist all student organizations, Campus Activities Board, and the Director, with various programming initiatives, including evening and late-night programming.
  3. Assist the Director with tracking and assessing student and community programs.
  4. Work closely with other campus offices within Student Life and Academic Affairs to enhance student programs and initiatives.
  5. Participate actively in campus-wide meetings and celebrations.
  6. Collaborate with the Director to develop additional programming and student organizations for non-traditional students, including graduate students, international students, and non-residential populations.
  7. Assists with supervision of student assistants in the office including Student Engagement Coordinators, Orientation Leaders, SGA, and Campus Activities Board.
  8. Coordinate, develop and execute social media strategies and the 7 Day Forecast to further promote student engagement outreach.
  9. Ensure that students enhance knowledge and skills through appropriate developmental tools, providing guidance for holistic growth.
  10. Performs such similar, comparable, or related duties as may be required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge: Bachelor's Degree required. Currently must be enrolled in a graduate studies program at Notre Dame of Maryland. An understanding of student development theory and how to translate theory to effective practice is essential. Candidates should also understand best practices in communications, as well as student programming for non-residential and non-traditional student populations, exercising and promoting a vibrant, inclusive campus environment in their daily actions.
  • Experience: One to two years student programming experience at undergraduate level.
  • Skills/Aptitude: This position requires administrative skills, supervisory skills, the ability to effectively manage multiple projects, and the ability to work effectively with students, families, staff and faculty.
  • Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some evening and weekend hours.
