- Microscopically examine blood and other body fluids.
- Make cultures of body fluid and tissue samples to determine the presence of microorganisms (fungi, parasites, bacteria, and others)
- Analyze samples for chemical content or a chemical reaction and determine concentrations of compounds as blood glucose and cholesterol levels
- Type and cross match blood samples for transfusions.
- Analyze blood for anemia, infections, and some type of malignancies.
- Collection, identification and preparation of proper specimen for analysis.
- Perform daily maintenance; start up, quality control on the equipment.
- Analyze or perform the requested tests on patients.
- Interpret results, double check and call the abnormal results to the floors, document and enter results in computer.
- Answer phone calls and give pertinent information when requested.
- Assist the nurses with ordering the right test in the computer.
- Print pending work list to verify that all the work is complete at each site.
- Perform the weekly, biweekly, and monthly maintenance on equipment.
- Perform and accept responsibilities as assigned.
- Act as tech-in-charge when assigned by the Laboratory manage
- Participate in educational programs both within the department or the hospital.
- Complete departments and hospital wide competencies to include age specific competency/POCT
- Participate on the ongoing performance improvement of the department
