NORTON MUSEUM OF ART is Hiring a Security Supervisor Near Beach, FL

Position Title: Security Supervisor.
Status: Full Time/Exempt.
Reports to: Director of Security.
Department: Security.
Updated: January 2024.
The security supervisor is responsible for the overall security and safety of the visitors, staff, collections, and visitors of the Norton Museum of Art and its campus, which includes the gardens, Cranesnest Way properties, the parking areas and the perimeter of the museum grounds. This includes performing responsible and professional security work relative to the safekeeping and overall safety of the museum, its property, exhibitions and collections. Additional responsibilities include working “after hours” events, both private rental and museum hosted events up to and including making adjustments to standard hours and regular days off, when applicable. The security supervisor will provide excellent customer service to our visitors, staff, and contractors in a friendly, respectful manner and observing and reporting any unusual or suspicious behaviors. The security supervisor reports to the Director of Security.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Opens and closes the museum and works with security operators to activate and deactivate the electronic alarm system at prescribed times; assists in operating security video monitoring and surveillance measures, as needed or required.
  • Prepares the daily schedule, pre-approves PTO and reassigns shifts and posts as needed.
  • Manages the operations desk and the security command center while monitoring operator activities.
  • Inspects the premises for such irregularities as signs of intrusion, interruption of utility services, fire related hazards, safety hazards, unsecured areas and any unusual or suspicious activity, etc.
  • Patrols the museum, protecting the building and its contents from potential losses, theft or vandalism, etc. 
  • Provides excellent customer service and assists visitors and patrons of the Museum by providing directions to various parts of the building or grounds and answering general questions. 
  • Provides direction(s) to security personnel, staff members, vendors and visitors during an emergency response, including an evacuation of the premises.
  • Cooperates with police, fire, fellow security team members and other authorities with issues or problems affecting the Museum.
  • Effectively (both verbally and written correspondence) interact courteously with staff members, vendors and visitors.
  • Prepares, maintains and documents records of incidents, property damage, unusual occurrences, suspicious activity, etc. 
  • Provides first aid to any person(s) in the museum or on the grounds, as needed. 
  • Informs visitors of potential rule infractions, such as bringing unauthorized items into the museum, touching artwork, unauthorized photography [flash] and violating any other museum rules or standards of conduct. 
  • Recommends procedures to enhance the security posture of the museum.
  • Provides excellent customer service and assists visitors by providing assistance or directions to various parts of the campus and answering general questions. 
  • Safeguards the museum’s artwork in and outside the museum galleries. 
  • Safeguards the physical location and all assets using effective security patrols.
  • Understands all museum procedures and assist vendors, contractors, visitors, and staff members.
  • Conduct yourself in a welcoming and pleasant manner when greeting or speaking with Museum visitors, vendors and staff members. 
  • Works closely with the Visitor Experience team members at all times, especially when encountering a problem or issue in the Museum galleries or public spaces.
  • Must be able to follow directions and react quickly during emergency situations.
  • Provide timely and accurate information to the Director of Security.
  • Speaks clearly over a two-way radio and telephone and be understood by other members of the staff.
  • Works effectively, courteously and professionally with diverse groups of visitors and staff members.
  • Routinely complete daily patrol schedule for areas assigned, within time frequency provided.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Security.
  • Conduct yourself in the best interest of the Museum.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior supervisory experience in security field or closely related.
  • Knowledge of security and safety procedures.
  • AED, CPR, first aid certification.
  • Ability to think clearly and act quickly in emergency or life-threatening situations. 
  • Ability to observe, tactfully confront and report security situations which are potentially hazardous or may cause loss or disruption to the museum. 
  • Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English, and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally with visitors and staff. 
  • Ability to stand or walk and patrol 7 or more hours per assigned shift.
  • Demonstrate the ability to act courteous and professional with visitors, staff, and vendors.
  • Able to work outside in the elements, when applicable.
  • Able to work until 10 pm on Fridays or later when necessary [special events].
  • State Security License preferred or must complete within 6 months of employment.
  • A criminal record devoid of felonies or serious misdemeanors.
  • Customer service experience is preferred.
  • Must wear the uniform provided and not alter the intended appearance in any way. 
  • Fluency in a second or multiple languages is a plus. 
  • Must successfully complete a background check.
  • A desire to work as a dependable, participating team player with a positive attitude.
This is a salaried position, [day shift] requiring flexible shift rotations, to accommodate special events on nights and weekends, when applicable.
