LOCATION: Northwest Youth Corps Headquarters - Eugene, Oregon

COMPENSATION: $88,000 - $90,000 Salary Exempt

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Since 1984, Northwest Youth Corps (NYC), a non-profit organization, has given tens of thousands of youth and young adults opportunities to learn, grow, and experience success. Through partnerships with conservation agencies, youth and young adults gain the personal and professional skills needed to carry out a variety of stewardship projects, from which they can earn a stipend, high school credit, and/or an AmeriCorps educational award. More importantly, these young people gain skills needed to become economically and socially self-sufficient, benefit their communities as citizen stewards, and recognize that they can make a positive difference. NYC also operates an accredited charter school, internship program, and the Idaho Conservation Corps (ICC).


Position Summary

The Finance Director serves as an integral member of the Northwest Youth Corps team, and is responsible for overseeing the financial management functions of the organization. The Finance Director reports to and collaborates on strategic components with the Sr. Director of Administration. Responsibilities include oversight of all Finance Department functions, annual audits, reporting, and maintaining internal controls, personnel management and reporting accuracy..


Position Details

Department Supervision and collaborations

With a passion and dedication to supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, the Finance Director will share a strong commitment to the NYC mission and values and actively seek to remove barriers for underrepresented populations. This position collaborates with Department Directors on budget development, monthly financial reports, and grants management and compliance, while providing direct supervision and support to the finance team.

Position Qualifications & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or relevant professional experience; CPA or CMA is preferred (four years' experience in a financial/accounting role or equivalent combinations of education and experience may substitute).
  • Substantial experience in midrange accounting applications with strong technical and accounting systems foundation. QuickBooks experience required.
  • Proven record of creating structure and best practice internal controls.
  • Knowledge of financial regulatory guidelines and procedures as it relates to 501(c)(3).
  • Expertise in managing federal grants and financial assistance agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting practices and principles including cash flow management and financial analysis.
  • Possess skills in problem resolution, initiative, prioritizing, implementing process enhancements, and handling of confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong detail orientation and ability to manage multiple overlapping priorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Accounting and Annual Audit

  • Oversee accounting functions including the general ledger, account reconciliations, transaction processing, payroll, accounts receivable, benefits, and accounts payable.
  • Facilitate accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and transaction completion. Maintains accurate forecasts of NYC's financial position.
  • Current knowledge and understanding of accounting and tax regulations and laws.
  • Maintains records essential to annual tax preparation; including multi-state and federal payroll taxes. Collaboration with CPA to conclude an annual A-133 Audit, 990 and CT- 12 filing and ensure distribution of various grant and agreement terms and conditions.


Financial Controls and Risk Management

  • Ensure adequate financial controls and establish additional controls as necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with records retention requirements.
  • Prepare and monitor all agency tax exemptions and required reporting to IRS and other revenue departments.
  • Acquire and renew all applicable business licenses.
  • Act as primary liaison with all banking and credit facilities to ensure compliance

    Terms of Employment

    This is a full time, exempt position. Typical hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00 PM; with periodic long days and/or evening and weekend responsibilities seasonally. Applicable employees may work remotely 1 full day (8 hours or 20%) of the workweek. Additionally, from Thanksgiving Day until New Years Day, eligible employees are allowed to work up to 40% (two 8-hour days based on 40-hour FTE) of their schedule remotely.
