Northwest Spay & Neuter Center is Hiring a Relief Veterinarian Near Tacoma, WA

We are seeking a Veterinarian for the Northwest Spay & Neuter Center which provides spay, neuter, wellness and dentistry services to income qualified homes and local animal welfare agencies. Northwest Spay & Neuter Center is the largest spay and neuter center in Washington state providing over 14,000 surgeries and over 5,000 wellness exams per year.

· A well-rounded veterinarian with experience in HQHVSN, dentistry and/or shelter environments.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Perform high-quality high-volume spay, neuter, wellness and dentistry services. Guide and perform exams, inductions, surgeries, anesthesia, dental x-rays and prophylaxis, anesthetic recovery, and preventative medicine.
  • Support and promote Fear Free and similar animal handling practices within the clinic.
  • Supervise the euthanasia and or euthanize animals as to AVHS policy.
  • Maintain proper records of animal care, medical charting and record-keeping in-line with current standards of care.

What you’ll need to be successful (minimum requirements):

  • Licensing:

o DVM; licensed to practice in the State of Washington.

o Valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation; ability to meet AVHS insurance requirements and appropriately operate AVHS vehicles in accordance with policy.

  • Veterinarian Experience:

o HQHVSN, dentistry and/or shelter environment experience.

o Ability to handle and assess potentially dangerous or fractious dogs and cats.

o Proficient (or willing and able within one year) in all aspects of high quality, high volume, spay & neuter (HQHVSN), dentistry, and the knowledge and delivery of preventative medicine topics and care based on organizational policy.

  • Teamwork:

o Demonstrated experience in working with a diverse staff in a positive, friendly, collaborative, and inclusive manner.

o Ability to engage with animals and humans who may be having a hard day with a commitment to quality care.

o Strong communication skills to demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, tact, compassion, and sound judgment to your coworkers and community members.

o Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.

  • Working Conditions:

o Able to work flexible hours, which will include weekends and some evenings.

o Proficiency with Microsoft programs; able to use effectively and guide others when needed.

o Frequent ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; hear sufficiently; reach, bend, or stoop, regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

o This position works daily in a spay, neuter, wellness, and surgery clinic. This position will come in direct contact with animals and will be exposed to animal related smells and sounds.
