Position Title: Autism Spectrum Disorder Consultant
Department: Special Student Services
Location: Washington Service Center - Serviing Washington County & Columbia County
Reports To: Coordinator
Compensation: Licensed Salary Schedule
FTE: 1.0 - 192 days per year



NW REGIONAL ESD’S MISSION STATEMENT: In partnership with the communities we serve, Northwest Regional ESD improves student learning by providing equitable access to high quality services and support.

General Description:

In alignment with the NWRESD’s mission statement, this position provides assistance to
EI/ECSE staff, K-12 Special Education, and District Staff, regarding evaluation and services for
students suspected to be, or identified as eligible for special education services under the
category of Autism Spectrum Disorder. This position may also be responsible for completing
student evaluations and attending required Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
(IFSP & IEP) meetings as needed.

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  1. Valid Oregon license with Handicapped Learner or Severely Handicapped learner
    endorsement in Special Education, early childhood, elementary, special education, or
    Board Certified Behavior Analyst certification
  2. Three years of experience working with students with autism
  3. Valid driver’s license, vehicle available for use on the job, and accompanying automobile
    insurance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
1. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through

2. Ability to work with very high degree of accuracy and organizational skills
3. Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations
4. Confer regularly with supervisor and/or designee
5. Skillfully utilize educational technology and software as required by the position
6. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in professional
development activities

Essential Functions: Include the following. Performs some or all of the following
tasks. Other Duties may be assigned.
The duties listed below are not inclusive, but
characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position.


A. Complete initial evaluations and re-evaluations for determining student eligibility for
special education under the category of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
B. Provide assistance to the local Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) with initial evaluations and
reevaluations for determining student eligibility for special education services under the
category of Autism
C. Development and presentation of professional development and workshops designated
in the service plans
D. Conduct individual student observations
E. Provide inservice training to staff and families regarding behavioral and learning
characteristics of children with autism
F. Assist local building staff in identifying staff and student needs
G. Assist the local building staff in its responsibility to develop, implement, and monitor
student programs
H. Provide effective communication with families and other professionals
I. Utilize appropriate strategies to facilitate team effectiveness
J. Participate in staff meeting and program in-services
K. Maintain records and reporting requirements as specified by the supervisor and program
L. Continue professional growth, especially in regard to current issues related to Autism
M. Provide consulting to local districts regarding special education eligibility, IFSP & IEP
goals and objectives, and appropriate educational intervention and progress monitoring
procedures
N. Perform other job-related duties as assigned
