Overview

The Accountant I role prepares and enters journal entries to the general ledger to help ensure accurate, timely and properly coded financial transactions in support of monthly, quarterly and year‐end close. This position supports the Controller, Accounting Manager and other staff with various accounting functions and analyses and has the primary responsibility for maintenance of files and documentation to support accounting transactions.Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions - 

  • Assists with timely month‐end, quarter‐end, and year‐end closing processes by performing the following:
    • Prepares, enters, and proofs journal entries.
    • Collaborates with Northwest Permanente and Kaiser Permanente Health Plan colleagues to ensure deadlines are met on a timely basis.
    • Researches journal entries as requested or needed; investigate unusual transactions.
    • Prepares monthly analysis on select accounts.
  • Contributes to oversight of the recharge process, including management of individual agreements.
  • Assists with bi‐weekly review of reimbursement requests for licensing and continuing medical education expenses.
  • Audits expense reports submitted by employees for accuracy and completeness.
  • Oversees corporate purchase card management and maintenance.
  • Supports Northwest Permanente Finance department with budgeting questions and analysis.

Minimum Qualifications - 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline or equivalent educational/professional experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of accounting or finance experience
  • Knowledge of inter‐entity accounting, include usage of Due To/Due From accounts.
  • Demonstrated experience in a computer‐based accounting system.
  • Excellent skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
  • Outstanding organizational and problem‐solving skills.
  • Solid interpersonal skills. Must be a self‐starter with strong sense of initiative and follow‐through.
  • Ability to work within various degrees of supervision, whether independently or as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications -

  • Three (3) years’ experience in Accounting or Finance
  • Advanced knowledge of computer applications and environments, including databases
  • Previous experience in a healthcare organization
