Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center is Hiring an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher (Goodland) Near Oakley, KS

TITLE: EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively and gain the confidence of administrators, parents, students, and teachers individually and in groups.
  2. Possesses skills needed to plan and conduct meetings, in-services, and workshops.
  3. Ability to maintain complete confidentiality and professional discretion.
  4. Initiative that will lead to continued program improvement and development.
  5. The willingness to work cooperatively as a team member with a variety of individuals and take directions from supervisors.
  6. Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license.
  7. Must have and maintain a dependable means of transportation.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of at least a Kansas teaching license in an area of preschool special education or the ability to obtain endorsement through a waiver.

JOB GOAL:

The development of outcomes which will enable all children and/or student(s) with disabilities to take advantage of their learning strengths and overcome their identified needs that they may have the opportunity to achieve their overall potential.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with parents and appropriate team members to plan and implement Individual Educational Programs (IEP) and/or Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) designed to improve child outcomes.
  2. Carry out responsibilities associated with case management for each child assigned to his/her caseload.
  3. Design and implement specialized instruction for each child, for whom responsible, that will help his/her learning strengths and overcome his/her developmental weaknesses.
  4. Determine and write an appropriate IEP or IFSP for whom responsible. (According to major components designated in IDEA).
  5. Provide the general education teacher(s) and/or parents with the IEP and/or IFSP and developmental appropriate strategies that are being used with children demonstrating needs.
  6. Provide informal or consultant role as initial indirect service to general education and/or community preschool teachers.
  7. Administer educational evaluations as qualified to determine child’s developmental strengths, weaknesses and learning styles.
  8. Provide parent support by informing parents on a periodic basis of child’s specific objectives and progress toward them (as required by law).
  9. Keeping accurate records related to the instruction and monitoring of all children for which they are responsible.
  10. Review child’s progress toward objectives consistently and modify program as needed.
  11. Initiate review staffings when necessary (at least once a year and any time a major program change is needed).
  12. Keeping accurate records related to the instruction and monitoring of all children for which they are responsible.
  13. Continually evaluate all aspects of the program to determine areas, which need improvement and then determine and implement methods to carry out improvement goals.
  14. Participate actively in the in-service activities provided.
  15. Provide supervision for paraprofessional/clerical personnel as directed by administration.
  16. Perform any other duties as directed.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  1. Exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer, to see and read a computer screen and printed materials with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; and physical agility to reach overhead.
  2. Ability to move between schools, school buildings and multiple rooms.
  3. Ability to interact with children, students and families to assist in meeting their physical, emotional and psychological needs.
