Youth Development Specialist 1 (Night Shift)

Location: HOST Program

Job Status: Full-Time | Wednesday – Saturday | 10:00 pm – 8:00 am

YOUR ROLE:

As our Youth Development Specialist, you will engage Transitional Living Program (TLP) youth through healthy living activities and conversations using a strength-based approach. You will support actionable steps towards completing ISP goals and advancement through the TLP phases. Contribute to a safe environment by providing supervision, guideline reminders, and crisis counseling. Model self and social responsibility within a trauma informed framework.

Our HOST Program IN Action :

HOST (Health, Outreach, Shelter, Transitions) provides support, guidance, and shelter for transitional aged young adults ages 18–24 who are at-risk or facing homelessness. HOST has 2 program components including a Resource and Engagement Center and a Transitional Living Program (TLP). HOST aims to end the cycle of abuse, trauma, homelessness, and exploitation by helping young adults transition from the streets to self-sufficiency.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with youth, staff, and community in a courteous, respectful, and professional manner with a thorough understanding of Trauma Informed Care.
  • Provides oversight for the safety and security of participants in the TLP program by implementing, monitoring, and enforcing, program guidelines and expectations.
  • Follows appropriate program/shift schedules to complete tasks, manage the program milieu, and encourage youth toward self and social responsibility.
  • Assists in completion of all necessary written documentation, record keeping & reports during shift as required.
  • Participate in service planning and other activities as directed by the coordinator and case managers and in conjunction with other community partners.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in psychology, sociology, human development, education, criminal justice, or related field preferred. Will consider an associate degree and/or relevant work experience (preferred 2 years or more) in the Human Services fields, as well as current students working towards a degree.
  2. Experience with at-risk youth preferred.
  3. Familiar with emotional, physical, and chemical dependency issues faced by at-risk youth.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with youth, community partners, and health professionals. Be a team player.
  5. Valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of automobile insurance (this position requires driving, and a motor vehicle report is conducted prior to hiring).
