Northwest Health La Porte is Hiring a Monitor Tech - Part Time Near La Porte, IN

Provides indirect patient care through continuous monitoring of ECG rhythms, interpretation of such rhythms, maintenance of monitoring equipment and communication as indicated under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Central Telemetry Monitor Technician upholds the standards of behavior by displaying integrity, commitment, communication skill, customer waiting, sensitivity, and professional appearance when interacting with all customers whether in person, over the telephone, or email. Exhibits knowledge of the behaviors, developmental stages, physical and emotional needs, life cycle changes, culture and comfort and care appropriate to the population served.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Licensure & Certification:

Certification:
  • BLS required within first month of hire
  • Complete basic ECG interpretation course before completion of orientation with a score of 90% or greater
Preferred:
  • Basic ECG interpretation course completed or successfully tested out
  • Data entry/computer skills preferred

The Telemetry Monitor Technician duties and responsibilities can include:

    • The Central Telemetry Monitor Technician duties and responsibilities can include:
    • Admits patients per order onto the telemetry monitor correctly
    • Transfers patients per order off the telemetry monitor correctly
    • Discharges patients per order off the telemetry monitor correctly
    • Ensures all ECG alarms are on and the appropriate alarm limits are set according to hospital policy
    • Cleans and stores monitor transmitters and leads when not in use
    • Maintains appropriate stock level of forms available on the unit.
      • Documents all patient data correctly in log book
      • Interprets ECG rhythm strips correctly including basic measurements of PR interval, QRS and QT intervals and documents legibly on strip with signature
      • Completes interpretation and documentation of ECG rhythm strips upon admission and then every 12 hours & PRN

      • Monitors correct placement of telemetry patients
      • Follows up on leads-off/artifact calls if unit-based correction has not occurred within 5 minutes
      • Gives hand-off report on all patients to oncoming Monitor Technician
      • Assists in orientation of new personnel as assigned
      • Demonstrates proficiency in use of computer, fax machine and phone equipment.
      6. Privacy – Maintains customer privacy and confidentiality
      7. Responsiveness - Responds in a way that demonstrates the care, courtesy and respect our customers deserve
      • Alerts the unit-RN/staff for any telemetry-associated non-rhythm alarms per policy (e.g. leads off, artifact)
      • Notifies the RN immediately of any changes in the patient’s ECG rhythm per policy and documents appropriately in a progress note and log book while maintaining current workload
      8. Safety Awareness - Ensures an accident-free environment. Establishes, promotes and monitors a proactive innovative approach to enhance hospital and patient safety. Adheres to and ensures compliance with Joint commission Patient Safety Goals and hospital safety policies.
      9. Sense of Ownership - Demonstrates a sense of ownership in their job, takes pride in what they do, and how they do it. Accepts responsibility for and is in control of the job that needs to be done
      10. Team Member is accountable for areas of responsibility meeting regulatory requirements including but not limited to maintaining annual TB testing, completing annual mandatories (ALC and competency), and maintaining current registration/certification/licensures as appropriate to position requirements
