Northwest Public Safety is a dynamic and cutting-edge 9-1-1 emergency response center committed to providing immediate assistance to those in need. Our team of dedicated professionals works tirelessly around the clock, ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

About what we do:

Since 1975, Northwest has built upon our core values of professionalism, teamwork, integrity, reliability, respect, and accountability to provide 9-1-1 communications and Dispatch services to multiple municipalities throughout CT. We are the Primary 9-1-1 answering point for nine (9) cities/towns, and we currently provide Public Safety Dispatch services to thirteen (13) EMS Agencies, eleven (11) Fire Departments, one (1) Regional ALS Fly Car System, and two (2) Law Enforcement Agencies. We also coordinate Ambulance-to-Hospital communications (CMED) to twenty-eight (28) cities and towns and six (6) area Hospitals.

General Job Description

  • Answer incoming routine and 911 phone calls
  • Gather critical information from callers
  • Enter information into Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
  • Make quick decisions and react with reason
  • Remain calm, professional, courteous and respectful at all times
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure

Minimum (Required) Qualifications

  • 18 years of age at time of hire
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Legal ability to work in the United States
  • Type at a net speed of at least 40 words per minute
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills

The following are PREFERRED but not required to apply

  • Priority Dispatch EMD, EFD, EPD certifications
  • CPR
  • State of Connecticut Telecommunicator certification
  • State of Connecticut COLLECT certification
  • Recent dispatch or call center experience
  • Public Safety (Police, Fire, EMS) experience
  • Reside in service towns (Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Bethlehem, Derby, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oxford, Prospect, Roxbury, Seymour, Waterbury, Wolcott, Woodbury)

Pre-Employment Testing Required

Multi-phased computer based tests will be used as a means of determining the suitability of each applicant for this position. These tests will assess your computer skills, reading comprehension, map reading skills, multi-tasking ability; an additional test will assess personality. Achieving a passing score on each testing component will be required to continue in the process.
