Northwest Children's Home is Hiring a Shift Supervisor (Internal Applicants Only) Near Lewiston, ID

POSITION: Shift Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: QRTP

SUPERVISOR: Residential Program Administrator

CLASSIFICATION: Hourly, non-exempt

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for providing direction, consultation, leadership and assistance to Team Leaders and Youth Mentors during their scheduled shifts. The Shift Supervisor provides on-site and on-shift supervision to direct care employees in the successful completion of their duties. The Shift Supervisor serves as the on-site supervisor for the campus.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid state issued license.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and provide verification.
  • Able to pass required Background Checks.
  • Able to complete and maintain all training requirements per agency policy and procedures.
  • At the time of appointment, must possess at least one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s Degree: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and one year of full-time experience in a children’s residential care facility.
    • Associate's Degree: An Associate’s degree or a minimum of forty-eight credit hours from an accredited college and two years of full-time experience in a children’s residential care facility.
    • Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent and three years of full-time experience in a children’s residential care facility.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Employed as a Team Leader for at least one year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for illustrative purposes)

  1. Fulfill Youth Mentor and Team Leader responsibilities outlined in the respective job descriptions.
  2. Provide supervision and support to Youth Mentors and Team Leaders, as needed, to maintain the stability of the program and assist with crisis intervention.
  3. Provide consultation and support to Youth Mentors and Team Leaders especially post-crisis where there is need to review procedures and limit-setting techniques
  4. Assist Residential Program Administrator in developing appropriate strategies for future interventions.
  5. Be knowledgeable of all agency policies and procedures, with particular attention to policies pertaining to client safety.
  6. Complete appropriate notifications in accordance with agency policy and procedure.
  7. Consult with Team Leaders in the event of special incidents to assure appropriate notifications are made within the given shift.
  8. Assign responsibilities and monitor Youth Mentors and Team Leaders on shift.
  9. Mentor Youth Mentors and Team Leaders on the principles of Trauma Informed Care.
  10. Build professional working relationships with employees and youth.
  11. Provide guidance and leadership to Youth Mentors and Team Leaders.
  12. Make good faith efforts to spend equal amounts of time with each assigned program.
  13. Check in with the Youth Mentors and Team Leader when entering programs.
  14. Spend time during shift in the programs not to satisfy the ratio, unless otherwise directed.
  15. Ensure each program has the required staffing they need to be successful.
  16. Rotate employees from one program to another if needed.
  17. Assist with program incidents as necessary, assessing the situation and utilizing training and best judgement to maintain safety for employees and youth involved.
  18. In collaboration with the Team Leader, make suggestions to Youth Mentors about how to handle the situation.
  19. View each incident as an opportunity to provide guidance, leadership and mentorship to both employees and youth.
  20. Attend team meetings each week to ensure current program and expectations and to learn individualized intervention techniques for youth.
  21. Maintain professionalism with team members and youth.
  22. Stay up to date with required trainings per agency policy and procedure and participate in other trainings as applicable to enhance professional skills.
  23. Maintain a strong, updated knowledge-base of established agency personnel policies and procedures.
  24. Check agency email and respond accordingly every working day.
  25. Complete appropriate notifications in accordance with agency policies and procedures in the event of critical incidents.
  26. Assist in the general cleaning of work area, maintaining an orderly and safe work area.
  27. Work efficiently and effectively as a member of a professional team.
  28. Complete all other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to withstand physical and emotional demands associated with performing direct care duties.
  2. Occasional moving of heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) in training and recreation.
  3. Performing physical intervention duties and restraints on clients.
  4. Requires the ability to work at a desk for long periods of time.
  5. Frequent moving and positioning self to complete tasks.
  6. Ability to operate and utilize objects, tools, equipment, supplies and controls.
  7. Must be able to effectively communicate with clients, co-workers, and other third parties in person, in writing, and remotely and must be able to use technology to review information and enter/retrieve data.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Trainings, meetings and other duties occasionally occurring in various buildings on agency property.
  2. Interaction with clients with various mental and physical conditions, including clients who could potentially be carrying an infectious or communicable virus, pathogen or disease.
  3. Interaction with clients who may act out physically, verbally or otherwise.
  4. Ensuring proper cleaning and sanitization that may involve the use of chemicals.
  5. Work completed primarily indoors.
  6. Interaction with clients requires adaptability when confronted with emergency, critical, unusual or potentially dangerous situations.
