Job Description
Performs routine clerical tasks related to the pathology laboratory.
Job Responsibility
1.Receives specimens from internal/external suppliers. May retrieve specimens from other hospital departments, as required.
2.Accessions patient specimens into laboratory computer system. Enters patient demographics and relevant information into laboratory computer system.
3.Must be able to handle high volume/pace receiving multiple department tissue samples at the same time.
4.Triages specimen for handling or release e.g. Frozen sections
5.Processes specimen using designated equipment.
6.Performs designated equipment maintenance including cleaning, emptying waste, and replenishing supplies, as required.
7.Maintains inventory of reagents and other supplies. Places orders for supplies through department computer system.
8.Responds to inquiries regarding specimen handling, test results, patient preparation, problem specimens, etc.
9.Operates the pneumatic tube system, as needed.
10.Prepares, distributes and files reports, as requested.
11.Performs related duties, as required.
Job Qualification
1.High School Diploma or equivalent, required. Coursework in general science/mathematics, required.
2.Prior laboratory/pathology lab experience, required.
3.Ability to operate office and minor laboratory equipment, required.
4.Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions.
