Requirements

Primarilyresponsible for helping all members of the patient care staff. Assistants workingin all areas of the hospital to provide the best possible care for patients.This position is responsible for assisting in the stocking and cleaning of thehospital. Assistants play an essential role in communication and organizationbetween all team members. These Assistants are responsible for the maintainingexcellence in patient care under the supervision of a Veterinary Technician ora higher-level Veterinary Assistant. Responsibilities increase as one learnsenough to advance

• Basic knowledge of anatomy forSmall Animals, Avian, and Exotics
• Feeding, walking, bathing ofhospital patients
• Patient Record Keeping (TreatmentSheet and Computer Record)
• Restraint of patients UsingLow-Stress Techniques
• Assist doctors in appointments
• Assist technicians with patienttreatments and care
• Client Communication
• Assist with radiographs usingappropriate PPE
• Medicate patients as prescribedvia oral or topical routes
• Proficient in operating allLaboratory Equipment
• Perform basic animal husbandryincluding set up and breakdown of cages
• Assist in keeping the hospitalclean and stocked
• Report inventory needs toappropriate team member
• Demonstrate knowledge ofsanitation and disinfection techniques
• ie. patient kennels and bedding, examrooms, hospital facilities, and surgical suites
• Able to collect voided urinesamples from patients.
• Ability to disconnect/stop andreconnect/start IV pumps
• Effectively communicate with allmembers of the staff
• Always practice in a manner thatupholds NorthStar VETS Core Values
• Complete other projects/duties asassigned by management
• Attend hospital/departmentmeetings as required
• Participate in the on-call andholiday schedule as required
