Position Overview: Northside Youth And Senior Service Center is seeking a dedicated and motivated After School Program Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of our after school enrichment program, which aims to provide a safe, engaging, and educational environment for children in our community. This role involves assisting with program activities, supervising students, and contributing to the overall success of the program.

Responsibilities:

  1. Program Support:
    • Assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of after school enrichment activities, including arts and crafts, sports, academic support, and more.
    • Collaborate with the program coordinator and other team members to develop and adjust program content that aligns with the center's goals and the needs of the students.
  2. Student Supervision:
    • Supervise students during program hours, ensuring their safety, well-being, and adherence to program rules and guidelines.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages student engagement, teamwork, and respectful behavior.
  3. Instructional Assistance:
    • Provide support to students in completing their homework assignments and other academic tasks, offering guidance and clarification when needed.
    • Assist in delivering educational activities that promote learning and skill development in various subjects.
  4. Communication:
    • Maintain open and effective communication with program coordinator, fellow staff members, parents, and guardians to relay information about students' progress, behavior, and any concerns that arise.
  5. Behavior Management:
    • Address behavioral issues using appropriate disciplinary measures and conflict resolution techniques, promoting a harmonious and respectful environment.
  6. Logistical Support:
    • Assist in setting up and cleaning program spaces before and after activities.
    • Help with the distribution of snacks and ensure students' nutritional needs are met.
  7. Record Keeping:
    • Keep accurate records of attendance, student participation, and any incidents that occur during program hours.
    • Assist in preparing regular progress reports for parents and stakeholders.
  8. Professional Development:
    • Participate in training sessions, workshops, and team meetings to enhance your skills, knowledge, and understanding of best practices in after school enrichment programs.

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in education, child development, or related field preferred
  • Prior experience working with children or youth in an educational or recreational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children, parents, and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young learners.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Basic knowledge of behavior management techniques and conflict resolution strategies.
  • First aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Background check and clearance as required by local regulations.

Position Type: Part-time, non-exempt

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, after school hours (exact timing may vary based on the program's schedule)

Compensation: $13.20hr-$14.20hr
