Northside Neighborhood House is Hiring a Development Specialist Near Chattanooga, TN

Job Title: Development Specialist

Reports To: Chief Development Officer

Location: 211 Minor Street, Chattanooga, TN

Classification: Full-Time, Salary, Exempt

Since 1924, the Northside Neighborhood House has focused on empowering residents north of the Tennessee River to create thriving communities across northern Hamilton County. From ensuring individuals are housed with working utilities to supporting students in achieving academic success, the NNH focuses on creating relationships and connecting individuals to supports that aid them in creating stability for themselves and their families. Our ability to address the varying needs of our neighbors positions us to provide a holistic support approach for individuals at all ages and stages of life.

Program Summary: Marketing and Development Department plays a vital role in promoting the organization, raising funds, engaging donors, and building strategic partnerships to support the non-profit agency's mission and ensure its long-term sustainability.

Position Summary: The Development Specialist assists in the planning, implementation, and tracking of various marketing and development strategies set forth to raise donor support and increase awareness of services and programs.

Typical Working Conditions/Environment: This position operates in an office setting. Frequent visits to other sites or partner agencies may be necessary to fulfill the requirements of the position.

Schedule: Typical schedule will be Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. Regular, punctual attendance is expected of all employees. Schedule may vary as needed to fully capture and promote programming.

Travel: Local travel on a regular, weekly or more often, basis is required. Reliable transportation and valid driver license is required to perform all functions of this role effectively. Occasional overnight or out of town travel for training may be needed.

This position is eligible to participate in our benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, retirement, and paid time off.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist with creating and supporting donor stewardship model.
  • Assist with maintaining donor database and analyzing trends.
  • Representing and promoting NNH at community events.
  • Scheduling and conducting outreach events.
  • Supporting fundraising events by assisting with solicitation, planning and execution.
  • Developing and maintaining both internal and external relationships.
  • Assists Chief Development Officer with implementing new fundraising and development ideas developed by Board of Directors.
  • Assists Northside Neighborhood House operations as deemed necessary by the CEO.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, business, or non-profit development preferred
  • At least two years of experience in non-profit development preferred
  • At least two years of experience in the non-profit sector preferred
  • Experience working with donors and database systems preferred

Equipment/Technology:

  • Must be able to use a computer & web-based services
  • Must be able to use and quickly learn new software to support agency priorities.
  • Experience with Google suite & MS suite preferred
  • Experience with donor databases preferred, particularly DonorPerfect
  • Experience with email, word processing, and spreadsheets required

Physical Skills:

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, and reach
  • Ability to lift up to and sometimes over 20lbs.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, telephone, and other office equipment is required.
  • Hearing and vision necessary to perform the essential functions of this position required

  • Flexibility to manage requests within a short turnaround deadline.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups.
  • Personal belief in NNH’s mission, goals and objectives.
  • Integrity and ability to respect confidentiality.
  • Willingness to work as part of a close-knit engaging team, and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage all of the moving parts of the development department.
  • Able to manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Cultural competence to understand and value clients’ unique perspectives.
  • Able to self-regulate and maintain a calm demeanor during times of high stress.
  • Works in harmony with other members of the Neighborhood House’s team
  • Is dependable, punctual, and honest in dealing with time, money, and materials.

  • Able to follow instruction, be self-reflective and accept feedback.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $44,000.00 - $47,000.00 per year
